The outside of the hotel was shabby. The windows were open when we walked up to the building and there was an unpleasant smell coming from them. There was no-one other than 2 members of staff there and we were shown to the worst room I have ever seen. It was cramped, dusty, smelly and it had old fashioned grubby eiderdowns on the beds. For the first time in my life I walked straightout again. I asked for a refund which was agreed by the girl on reception but refused by the owner. HORRIBLE! Read less

See above. It was a hotel nightmare and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. If you want a nice stay in the Oxfordshire area, then this isn't for you.

We are very sorry that you have had a bad experience. The receptionist did not offer a refund but said that she would speak to the owner. We had beleived that the reason you left was due to illness....this was obvioulsy not the case. Had you been more clear at the time, perhaps we could have sorted the problem. We are not in the habit of taking credit card bookings and then being asked for a cash refund out of the till...very against all hotel policies.review show we have many satisfied customer

So successful has the welcoming atmosphere of The Vines proved that it has been necessary to build an attractive new wing in the gardens overlooking the lovely Black Bourton church.
Places of interest within 10 miles of The Vines: Burford, the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds, is only 3 miles away and offers fabulous antiques and specialist shopping. Bourton-on-the-Water, with its beautiful bridges, perfumery and Birdland, are all 20 minutes drive from us. The Cotswolds is on your doorstep. We recommend visits to Bibury, Lower Slaughter, Kingham, Chipping Campden and Broadway. The Cotswold Wildlife Park, with lions, tigers and many more exotic animals, is just 10 minutes drive from us. Minster Lovell – with its beautiful ancient abbey ruins, Lechlade - the source of the river Thames, Witney, a thriving market town 10 minutes drive Stratford Upon Avon, the home of Royal Shakespeare Theatre is about 60 minutes away, Swindon, Oxford and Cheltenham are within easy reach (30 - 40 mins).
