Llanwrtyd Wells,

Powys,

In Britain's smallest town between the Cambrian Mountains & the Brecon Beacons, we offer the opportunity to stay in the undiscovered 'Welsh Lake District'. A family owned and run Victorian listed building, we have aimed to preserve the traditional ambience of the hotel. Our rooms are all individual, and some would say quirky, with sloping floors and doors that sometimes stick, but they are homely, comfortable and clean.

  • Mountain biking
  • Walking
  • Real ales
  • Friendly
  • Good home cooked food
  • Pony trekking

"Ideal stop along the Central Wales Railway Line - or for Bog-snorkelling!"
Bed, evening meal and breakfast, followed by a very pleasant morning walk up the
valley to the historic St David's Church, before getting back on the
lunchtime train. I also learned about Llanwrtyd's fame as being the
smallest town in Britain and for it's "Alternative Games", including the
World bog-snorkelling championships. Would be good to come back for
them with my other half - but I won't enter the wife-carrying race... Read less
Likes:
A bit quirky but very welcoming. Comfortable bed. Good-quality pub food
and a good breakfast. Excellent choice for real-ale drinkers.
Dislikes:
Bathroom very cramped and bedroom would benefit from being redecorated - but don't chuck out the old furniture!

Situated at the heart of Britain's smallest town, between the Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons, we offer a unique opportunity to stay in the undiscovered 'Welsh Lake District'. The pace of life is easy, and you can choose to either just relax amongst breathtaking scenery and wildlife, or enjoy one of the varied activities the area has to offer.

Accommodation is provided in a family run hotel which has stood in the centre of Llanwrtyd Wells for over 130 years. Its 19th century character, complete with log fires, has been preserved in the lounge and public bars. Here, each night, you can meet the townsfolk and listen to the stories from the hills and valleys, some as broad as the fish that get away in the local River Irfon.

All of our 21 rooms have en suite facilities with colour TV and either a bath, shower, or both. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, shaver point and radio. Facilities include the traditional farmers' Bell Bar featuring the original servants' bells, and a comfortable lounge bar. Both bars serve a range of real ales, as well as the usual beverages. There is also a games room for pool and darts, and a residents' TV lounge, which is equipped with various board games and numerous jigsaw puzzles.

Since 2006 we have been brewing real ales in our own microbrewery, the "Heart of Wales Brewery", built in the derelict stables behind the hotel, and we always have a good selection available on the pumps in the bars, as well as in bottles to take home.
