"Wonderful B&B Near Highclere Castle"
We stayed 3 nights at the Rookwood House in Newbury, England. It is a beautiful property with lovely gardens and a great location convenient to visiting Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey), Stonehenge, Avebury and Bath. Proprietors Charlotte and Rupert Digby were very helpful and provided great service, delicious breakfast. We stayed in their carriage house (two rooms above a living area) which were good sized, clean and comfortable. An added bonus was that their dalmatian dog had 11 puppies! Read less

"A comfortable ,happy stay thank you"
We arrived very early and room not ready. We took taxi into Newbury and returned to a pretty, comfortable room with wonderful view over garden. Stairs I find difficult as 2 hip replacements but Charlotte insisted on carrying suitcases up stairs.
We walked to Lord Lyon Inn which was not cooking meals until re opening in a week. Great pub. Visited Highclere Castle next day( reason for our stay) a 25 min taxi ride.
If you love dogs you will enjoy your stay. Dalmatians mum and pups so cute. Read less

"Enjoyed but would look elsewhere next time"
Booked a room for three - but was given one room for 2 and a single room. The room for three was apparently already occupied. They offered a refund, but it was the evening, so we stayed anyway. The single room was very worn, and there was nothing attractive about it. The room for two was much nicer. Neither room had an ensuite so we had to wander in and out in pyjamas and towels - not ideal. Also felt uncomfortable walking in and out of house as had to go through the area where the hosts lived. Not given the room we booked. Felt like intruding in family home.

Rookwood Farmhouse B&B offers a warm welcome a quiet and comfortable night's sleep just outside Newbury. It has two pubs and a restaurant/spa in walking distance as well as a golf course and driving range. All rooms are en suite and there is a large sitting room with conservatory and kitchen for guests' use.

Alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal, the largest town in West Berkshire, Newbury, has a bustling high street with many interesting shops, which include unique stores such as family-run department store Camp Hopson. Once a month the town is also visited by the farmer’s market, crammed full with delicious, local produce.

Overlooking the town is another Newbury landmark. Donnington Castle saw much action during the civil wars of 1643 and 1644. Today all that is left is the gatehouse but visitors are still attracted by the views

Also just outside the town is the internationally renowned Newbury Racecourse positioned in a stunning setting and boasting fantastic hospitality.
