Set in the Tamar Valley, the countryside that surrounds the B&B with its abundant wildlife is amazing. This 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', the peaceful situation and the standard of accommodation that the B&B provides will appeal to all tastes. The Bed and Breakfast is famous for its comfortable beds and delicious breakfasts - using all local organic produce and homemade bread and preserves, (vegetarian breakfast a particular speciality).
We have stunning views across the River valley to the viaduct (built in 1907) and Cotehele House, a 14th Century National Trust property a short 20 min walk along by the River from Home Park. We are close to the village centre and boats and canoes can be launched on the River Tamar (check tide tables). There are two local pubs, a village shop, Beauty and massage at 'The Haven', Art at the 'Lime Kiln Gallery'. The Tamar Valley branch line connects Plymouth to Calstock with free parking at the station which is 5 mins walk from the house.
We can suggest several picturesque local walks and for those who would like more of a challenge the wild beauty of Dartmoor is nearby. The fine sandy beaches are within easy driving distance to the North and South coasts. We are an ideal short stop-over on your way further down into Cornwall, or you might choose to stay longer and use us as a base for exploring the beautiful counties of Devon and Cornwall.
The village of Calstock sits between Callington and Gunnislake - just 2 miles off the A390. Tavistock, a very interesting old market town is 8 miles to the east, and Plymouth just 17 miles to the south. The BBC2 series The Edwardian Farm was filmed only 20mins away at Morwellham Quay, Chrissy was an extra in the programme! The golf course and country club at St Mellion(15mins) and the Eden Project just 45mins away. Please visit our 'The Area' page for more places of interest in Cornwall. We have a 'Green Acorn' award for our contribution to sustainable tourism and the environment.
Environmental Statement
We aim to be as environmentely friendly as possible in our way of life and in running our B&B. Food is sourced locally and from the Farmers market in Tavistock. Our own chickens provide delicious freshly laid eggs with golden yolks that taste amazing - they are very happy well loved 'pets', we make our own artisan bread and marmalade. The products in the bathroom are made in Cornwall, the beautiful aromatic soap from the nearby village is handmade by So Soapy. Cleaning products too are all environmentely friendly. We recycle plastic, paper, glass and aluminium. We use Wood burning stoves when we can to maximise resourceable energy, these are in our cosy kitchen and guests lounge. As we are on a branch line from Plymouth we encourage our guests to come by train as the area is well serviced by public transport and can be covered on foot very enjoyably. We love and respect the planet, Chrissy is also an artist working with upcycled materials - car windscreen glass etc
