"Cosy and comfortable, warm and welcoming."
I stayed in the Tamar Orchard Barn for Christmas. I arrived at the railway station in stormy weather and was met by my hosts. They drove me the short distance to the barn, showed me round and supplied me with mince pies, brandy butter, fruit and wine. Not only were there room heaters but also underfloor heating in the shower room and an electric blanket on the bed. Luxury! OS maps and tourist literature had thoughtfully been left for me, and I went out exploring the local area every day. Read less

Cosy, comfortable and quiet, and ideally situated for exploring the Tamar Valley. Spotlessly clean accommodation full of personal touches such as floral arrangements from the garden. Great hosts.
Dislikes:
The only problem I had was cooking Christmas meals with nothing but a microwave/grill available. Be prepared!
Response from Sandhill House Country Retreat:
Thank you so much for your very kind comments and thoughts about your stay in The Tamar Orchard Barn. Thank you also for the feedback about the combination microwave; thanks to your comment we will ensure that future guests have a short set of instructions so that all the functions, including oven, are easily accessible. We are so delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and that you would recommend The Barn to friends and we hope that you will return to carry on 'discovering the extraordinary.

Sandhill House is the perfect countryside retreat to escape to and enjoy exclusive B&B accommodation in the heart of the breathtaking Tamar Valley. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site, this luxury B&B Cornwall is the ideal gateway to explore the fantastic natural environment of the Tamar Valley and its world changing heritage, Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor and the historic Naval city of Plymouth. In addition Sir Francis Drake's hometown, Tavistock, is less 10 minutes drive and both the rugged north and sandy south coasts being just 30 - 40 minutes away. It is also ideal for exploring National Trust and Royal Horticultural properties, or for business if you prefer to avoid the big hotel chains.

New on the market, Sandhill House and the self-catering Tamar Orchard Barn are exclusive but relaxed retreats. The elegant and enchanting Grade II Listed Georgian home was originally the great mine owner, John Williams', 'Manor'. It has recently under-gone refurbishment with facilities including king size beds, beautifully appointed en-suites, free wifi, and Freeview TV/DVD and hospitality trays. There is a breakfast menu choice, offering the best ethically and locally sourced produce, served in the Georgian dining room.

The Tamar Orchard Barn, set in the 2 acre gardens, is dog friendly, offering total seclusion with a private, south facing garden.

With public transport, including the Tamar Valley Railway Line, at the end of the carriage drive, Sandhill House is the perfect place for walkers and cyclists and for those wishing to walk to the local pub! St Mellion Golf Club is just 20 minutes away. Other local activities include tree-surfing and canoeing on the beautiful Tamar River. Please see our Blog, 'Once Upon a Time' for local events.

Guests are welcome to relax in the tranquil, horticultural ‘treasure trove’ gardens. We regret that extensive ornamental ponds make Sandhill unsuitable for children.
