We were greeted with a very warm welcome. The location was ideal with lovely views of Dartmoor and it was so nice and quiet. The garden which guests could use was delightful.
There was plenty of room in the bedroom and the bed was very comfortable; fresh flowers in the bedroom was particularly appreciated. The breakfast was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners.it was delightful stay and we shall return. Read less

Mary and Andrew were both very friendly and helpful, chatty but not cloying. The house/room were very nice as were the views and the exquisite gardens. The breakfasts were fantastic (inc. vegetarian).
Dislikes:
Only really the weather, which was not something anyone could do much about!

"We stayed on our way to St Ives to visit National Trust properties"
Very pleasant hosts but we struggled with the property and room being cold and damp. The buffet table at breakfast was poor just 3 boxes of cereal on a sideboard and on the first morning no milk until the host saw we were having cereal - there was no accessible fruit juices, fresh fruit salad or yoghurt - there was a continental option to cooked but very limited choice. The close proximity to the National Trust properties we wanted to visit.
Dislikes:
The very poor breakfast buffet table a big disappointment to any other B & B we have stayed in.

Sandhill House is the perfect countryside retreat to escape to and enjoy exclusive B&B accommodation in the heart of the breathtaking Tamar Valley. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Site, this select B&B Cornwall is the ideal gateway to explore the fantastic natural environment of the Tamar Valley and its world changing heritage, Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor and historic Naval city of Plymouth. In addition Sir Francis Drake's hometown, Tavistock, is less 10 minutes drive and both the rugged north and sandy south coasts being just 30-40 minutes away. It is also ideal for exploring several National Trust properties, or for business if you prefer to avoid the big hotel chains.

Historic Sandhill House and the self-catering Tamar Orchard Barn are exclusive but relaxed retreats. The elegant and enchanting Grade II Listed Georgian home was originally the great mine owner, John Williams', 'Manor'. Recently restored to it's former glory with facilities including king size beds, beautifully appointed en-suites, free wifi, and Freeview TV/DVD and hospitality trays. There is a breakfast menu choice, offering the best ethically sourced produce, served in the Georgian dining room. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept dogs in the house because of our own, who are not on 'general release'.

The self-catering Tamar Orchard Barn, set in the 2 acre gardens, is dog friendly, offering total seclusion with a private, south facing garden. Please ring 07713 077877 to enquire.

With public transport, including the Tamar Valley Railway Line, at the end of the carriage drive, Sandhill House is the perfect place for walkers and cyclists and for those wishing to walk to the local pub! . Other local activities include tree-surfing and canoeing on the beautiful Tamar River.

Guests are welcome to relax in the tranquil, horticultural ‘treasure trove’ gardens. We regret the extensive ornamental ponds make Sandhill unsuitable for children.
Environmental Statement
Sandhill House’s Carbon Footprint when built 550 years ago would have been very small indeed, with heat, light, and all food being produced locally. We realise we cannot achieve such a small footprint in the 21st Century but what we can do is minimise our impact, both locally and globally, on this world so that we can enjoy it today but also future generations will benefit from the well-being created by our beautiful surroundings. In order to reduce our impact and our guests at Sandhill House B&B and the self-catering Tamar Orchard Barn we have implemented the following: • Sandhill House is a member of CoaST Cornwall Sustainable Tourism One Planet Tourism Project www.coastproject.co.uk • We comply with environmental legislation and approved codes of practice including the Countryside Code • We support local food producers, restaurants, pubs and tourist attractions, along with shops and transport. We believe in buying locally wherever possible to reduce packaging and road miles.
