"A wonderfully comfortable place to rest our weary limbs after a day's walking"
We stayed for 2 nights while exploring the Hadrians Wall paths. We were made really welcome and fed really well. For the first night, dinner was not avaialble but they had booked us into a really nice pub for a meal that night. To help our walking trip, we were given a lift to Lanercost on the first morning giving us a good start for a day's walk back to the place. Read less

Brookside Villa B&B, created from 2 semi-detached Victorian villas, offers stylish ensuite bedrooms, a bar & evening meals on Hadrian’s Wall Trail close by Birdoswald Fort, and other historical sites - Housesteads, Vindolanda, Lanercost Priory. At the very heart of Hadrian’s Wall Trail (0.25miles), on Route 72 Hadrian’s Wall Cycleway, we offer a Trail Walkers' Package which includes pick-up and drop-off on the Trail. Our guests tell us that we've thought of everything, and welcome our attention to detail. Our job is to help you enjoy your visit, and we continue to work towards that.

We are in a quiet hamlet a short walk from Gilsland, just 7 minutes walk from Hadrian's Wall Trail itself, on the border of Cumbria & the western edge of the awe-inspiring Northumberland National Park. 45 minutes east is Newcastle upon Tyne—via the historic towns of Hexham & Corbridge. 1/2hour west is Carlisle & little further the Solway Coast. Just 1 hour drive to Cumbria's Lake District.

Once here friends, couples & families are made welcome and can have tea, wine, or a locally brewed beer in the garden with views toward Hadrians Wall, or in the homely lounge in front of a log fire. Explore our menu and enjoy an exquisite home-cooked dinner at c.7pm -prepared from local, organic, Fairtrade, free-range produce. 5 bright, contemporary-styled bedrooms offer bathrobes, hair dryers, free wifi, TV, radio, hot drinks tray. Our spotless bedrooms are carefully and thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the most demanding guests after a long day walking, cycling or site-seeing. Comfortable beds with duvets & crisp white linens; ensuites with huge towels, powerful showers, lashings of hot water and luxury toiletries. Polished wood floors gleam throughout; racks for your walking boots, hooks to hang your packs, drying room, secure cycle storage, overnight laundry. Outside is a wash-station for boots & cycles. Environmental Statement
We know that we could probably do (or not do) more to be “greener” and be more ethical consumers. But this is what we try to do: buy local, fair-trade, free-range and organic produce as far as practically possible. Eg.we use local butchers who ensure that meat is sourced from known farms within 15 miles; local eggs, organic cheese & lamb from Slack House farm ½ mile away. We try to source seasonal fruit and vegetables locally. We use on-line shopping, saving at least 3x50 mile car trips to our nearest supermarket. Most of our guests stay only one night so, where possible we launder your towels at 30 degrees. We line-dry - weather permitting! - and avoid the tumble-dryer though this means your towels may not appear to be very fluffy! We NEVER use chemical fabric softeners. We use a laundry service for linens with a weekly pick up/collection from many B&Bs along our section of the Trail.
