Early check in was no problem.
Dislikes:
Just that the owners seemed very keen to get you to pay for as many extras as possible - such as having to pay for breakfast instantly on arrival, and over two pounds for milk for the baby's bottle.

"Good value for a good location"
We stayed in the Duke of Wellington for 2 nights using it as a base to explore the Peak District and visit some of the child-friendly attractions of the area. For this the location was perfect and offered excellent views from the garden. Generally the pub was child-friendly and had a climbing frame with slide etc at the back - although this seemed to date from the 70's and could not be used by young children safely. Rooms were OK and food was good value. Read less
Likes:
The location was good and the service friendly. The full English breakfasts - charged extra - were very good and worth the charge. The evening meals were also good value.
Dislikes:
There was a certain lack of attention to detail in cleanliness in the rooms and also there was a loose screw on the child bunk bed that could cause injury and the quality of the evening meals varied.

Built in 1866, the 'Duke' has all the character and charm of a traditional country inn, built in Derbyshire limestone with slate roofs, roaring log fires and extensive gardens, our pub is well worth a visit.

Our inn has been redecorated, relatively recently, in a country style that provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere for both drinkers and diners alike. The menu is simple and traditional with a big focus on traditional pub favourites and our 28-day-aged Derbyshire beef that gives us a wide selection of steaks and grills.

The extensive floral gardens offer comfortable seating areas as well as a fully enclosed heated patio area overlooking 'Riber Castle and the Derwent Valley'.
