We were going to a party in the village hall, so it was a perfect location to be based within easy walking distance (just a few minutes). Delicious breakfast in the cafe next door.

"Huge thank you!"
We arrived at the Stables ready to go to a wedding at the nearby Calke Abbey. We had booked a taxi to take us down the long drive to the wedding. However the taxi was late and after many phone calls with a poor mobile reception, the lady from the stables very kindly took us herself! We can't thank her enough - we made it in time and had a great day. The room was ideal and the breakfast excellent. Read less

Our biggest problem was caused by the entrance and exit to the site which was approached by a busy main road.
More details of how to enter the accommodation would have been appreciated. I would recommend this accommodation to others with the proviso that they would have to negotiate the approach and exit. Read less

The owner and her son when we eventually met them. The breakfast provided by the teashop next door (price included) was extremely good, with great choice on the menu.
Dislikes:
Having to reverse onto a very busy main road.

The Main Accommodation Consists of a spacious, tastefully decorated two bedroom self contained apartment with private kitchen and bathroom facilities. Ticknall is a small but picturesque village close to Melbourne and Calke Abbey. Built between the years 1701/03, Calke Abbey is a fine baroque mansion that has undergone very little restoration and is surrounded by wonderful parkland. The village contains a lock-up that was still used in the early part of the twentieth century, and the remains of the Church of St Thomas a Beckett on the site of the Church of St George, which was erected to cover the growth in population in the area in 1831.
