The manner in which character and ideals were blended into such an appealing package was particularly pleasing. Also the loan of wellies for a local walk right from the doorstep was a lovely touch.

Beautiful Four Star accommodation in the heart of the Blackdown Hills countryside, on the Devon Somerset border. In the middle of nowhere yet central to everywhere! Half an hour from the beach, Cathedral City of Exeter and close to the Market towns of Taunton, Honiton, Axminster and Tiverton. Cosy converted loft accommodation above our makers studio with roof terrace, garden and far reaching views across the fields and valley. Bed and breakfast or room only stays all year round.

The Old Kennels is a flint barn, originally part of Stentwood Estate built by Squire Eccles in the 1890’s, now home to our herd of Alpacas who are kept solely for their fibre. Woodland, wildlife and unspoiled landscapes abound. We are proud to be holders of the Green Tourism Gold Award and take part in 'Get Wild about Devon'.

While you are here why not take a course in traditional skills, hedge laying, arts or cookery, walking or cycling in ancient woodlands, flying lessons, water or motor sports, fishing, enjoy the Jurassic coastline, explore the antique shops of Honiton or Cathederal city of Exeter excellent farm shops, cafés, country pubs, breweries and restaurants in the surrounding area and of course the beautiful Blackdown Hills themselves. Walkers & cyclists are welcome, we have a secure drying area for bikes and wet weather clothes.

We also offer courses in rural and traditional skills and crafts such as silversmithing, glass bead making, stone, wood and willow work.

Accommodation is available throughout the year however, as we run short courses, accommodation rooms will be reserved for those registered on a course. Online booking will be unavailable during these times. If you have booked or are thinking about booking a course please contact us directly to confirm our room availability.
