Beautiful Dartmoor scenery. Lowertown was a good base for exploring south and east Dartmoor.
Dislikes:
Rooms were cold on day one, because fire was not lit.
Response from Lowertown Farm B&B:
Thanks for the review.
We always ask quests if they would like the log burner lit as it heats up the bedrooms above, ensuring that your bedroom is not too hot or too cold for your personal liking.
We provide a selection of preserves which alter on a regular basis, but of course, if we had known you preferred marmalade in particular, we would have fetched you some. There were a number of glasses avaliable for your use as mentioned in the Welcome Folder. Thanks again for your stay.

"staying in the middle of nowhere"
Spent 4 nights to explore Dartmoor and surroundings. Due to the very desolate location of the farm which I didn't know and the often steep and narrow roads it took a lot of time to get somewhere and back again. Still the atmosphere of the region was unique and absolut worth the time I spent there! Once I knew my way I had a great time. Read less

Friendliness of Hannah and Luke, their enthusiasm and love for their region and live there, their farm and their animals; being provided with maps and hints what to do, where to go; the breakfast
Dislikes:
heater in room (most probably in all other guest rooms) is provided by fire place in guest lounge beneath; if no fire is lit there or late, it gets rather cool in guest rooms, nasty!
Response from Lowertown Farm B&B:
Pleased to hear you had a lovely time, Dartmoor is definately rural and our location is very quiet and peaceful as you experienced in May 2012. Our eco-friendly wood burner provides heat in both Rippon Tor and Blackator directly above, and we light the fire on colder days to ensure the house is warm for a cozy night in. I'm sorry if the bedroom was too cold for your liking on the occassional evening and extra blankets were provided as a result. Hope it didn't ruin the experience for you. H & L

Lowertown Farm Bed & Breakfast is set in a peaceful rural hamlet within the Dart valley, three miles away from the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Luke and Hannah, the second generation to live at the farmhouse, welcome you with a log fire (lit during cold winter nights), comfy sofas and often locally sourced full English breakfasts.
Whether it’s kayaking, climbing the granite tors, riding a horse across the moors or exploring the beauty of Dartmoor, Hannah and Luke, with their keen interest in the outdoors, are able to provide you with an enjoyable stay. Luke is an experienced kayaker and climber and can give you advice on local rivers and crags. There are a number of good quality pubs in the area for your evening meals, one of which is just a short walk though the fields.
We were even mentioned in The Sunday Times on 15th Jan 2012 in an article regarding Steven Spielberg's film War Horse famously filmed on Dartmoor within a few miles of our farmhouse.
All guest rooms are upstairs and share a bathroom (bath with shower above) – please bear this in mind. As the three guest rooms share a bathroom not only does it save water, but it also means that we can keep a close eye on it - keeping it clean, hygienic and topped up with good quality tolietries.
The Horse Friendly B&B:
Ever thought about riding somewhere a bit different on your own horse? Then bring your horse on holiday. We'll even keep an eye on your horse for the day whilst you visit the local attractions. Fantastic riding on open common, through woodland and on quiet lanes.
We also accept horses on grass livery and breed and sell Pedigree and Heritage Approved Dartmoor ponies. Our ponies are all trained using natural horsemanship techniques and provide the perfect pony for your family. Hannah is a fully qualified Horse Behaviourist and Trainer.
For those who don't have their own horse, there are plenty of recommended riding stables on Dartmoor.
Environmental Statement
We have set aside areas of land for conservation to benefit the native flora and fauna.
We encourage appreciation of the Dartmoor National Park’s habitat and cultural heritage.
We have a solar security light, and promote the local hydro-electric scheme at a farm two miles away.
We favour local produce where possible and buy in bulk to reduce our trips to suppliers. We also use our own eggs, fresh from chickens in our garden.
We use a ‘quick cup’ instead of a kettle providing hot drinks for our guests.
We encourage our guests to buy local produce and stay at ‘greener’ venues when on holiday.
We breed and support the native Dartmoor Ponies on the common with the use of our pedigree Dartmoor stallion Merribridge Groomsman.
Our natural spring water is heated by our Rayburn – keeping the water hot without the use of electricity.
We try to promote our self-sufficient log burner.
