Taunton House is a stunning Victorian house with large, centrally heated bedrooms which retain original fireplaces. The house dates back to 1862 and was owned for more than 80 years by the author Thomas Hardy's cousin. It contains many of the original features and has much character. It has been thoughtfully and tastefully renovated to an extremely high standard. It's friendly and welcoming and known for its excellent hospitality.

Dislikes:
Arrived 1 hour early and no one at the accommodation. Little worried about getting in, could not say exact time of arrival as travelling from South Wales. Host did apologize.

It is situated about one minute from the centre of town, local restaurants and pubs and of course the sea and award winning sandy beaches. A range of outdoor activities including swimming, scuba diving, walking in the Purbeck Hills, golf and horse riding are close at hand. It has its own private car at the rear of the property so your car will be safe in the middle of town. It also has a small courtyard garden. The current owners , Marios and Annie Lambis, have lived for many years in the Mediterranean and so the food and the house has a special Mediterranean feel.
All food is sourced using the highest quality produce from local suppliers. It is freshly cooked to order and offers a variety of choices. This can include:
- a freshly cooked full English breakfast, using produce from local farms
- a continental breakfast with a variety of fine cheeses, hams and sausages, breads and preserves
- an all in one "Annie's special Mediterranean omelette"
- a vegetarian menu
- fair-trade teas and coffees
- a selection of homemade breads
- a selection of cereals and fresh fruit juices
- fresh fruit salads to die for
The one thing we can promise you is excellent, locally sourced food, cooked to a very high standard.

Caring for the environment is important to us and we are committed to following a policy that promotes sustainable tourism.
• By using recycled paper in our stationery as well as for facial and toilet tissue
