A lovely house with beautiful rooms and the bonus of a swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi. A warm welcome, excellent breakfast and clean, stylish, comfortable rooms.
Dislikes:
Dogs barking in the adjoining room - I hate the thought that there might have been dogs staying in my room. This room (3) was not as special as the others but still very good.

"Mini break to reserach family tree in the area south of Stranraer"
We chose Thornbank as a base to tour the area around Stranraer where my grandmother and her ancestors lived and worked and to carry out some research. Thornbank has an incredible location overlooking the loch with incredible views from all the rooms. Fiona was extremely friendly and helpful We had the large room at the front with the bay window which was amazing. It was a great base for sightseeing the area. Incredible value for money!! We had the pool area to ourselves both times we used it ! Read less

The room was great, after an 8 hour drive Fiona knocked on the door with a surprise bottle of chilled wine and strawberries which was a lovely unexpected touch. Heated indoor pool and spa was brilliant
Dislikes:
Stranraer ok as base but very quiet and a bit run down. A fairly long walk into town although along the loch ok in daylight. However great places to eat especially The Bay and good tourist office
