I appreciated the friendliness of the service, the location, the novelty of room facilities and decorations, and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step back in time!
Dislikes:
The door to my room didn't lock from the outside, although there were other rooms that did. Not a problem for me, but may be an issue for some visitors.
Response from St Benedict B&B:
Hello Acacia
Very many thanks for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay; do come again!

"Somewhere very different!"
We decided to have a short break in Hastings, and chose St. Benedicts. We both enjoyed our visit here, after a shaky start - but all's well that ends well! Paul and Stephen are very nice people, and do try to make one feel comfortable.
The house is in a really nice, peaceful area on a hill, and handy for the seafront.
If you like to stay at places which are not 'run of the mill', and like to get into the theme, this is your authentic Victorian place to stay in the Hastings area. Read less

The rear garden; and the gorgeous little chapel is wonderful just to be in and feel the peace!
Catherine, the lady who cooks the lovely breakfasts and looks after the rooms, is really a joy.
Dislikes:
WiFi, although available, is currently not very strong on signal, and doesn't reach much beyond the Library room - Stephen told me they are trying hard to rectify this.
Response from St Benedict B&B:

St Benedict is a beautiful and comfortable home built in 1881, and is finished and run with the style and comfort of a bygone age.

On arrival our guests may take tea on the lawns where a snowy cloth is laid with fine china and home baking straight from the Aga or in the winter sit in the drawing room in front of a roaring fire. If you wish you can arrange to have a full dinner in the victorian dining room with a choice of Mrs Beeton's traditional recipes prepared 'below stairs'.

Every morning tea can be brought to you before you come down for breakfast, served country house style. Help yourself to a full English breakfast or try such empire favourites as kedgeree.

We have two cosy second-floor double bedrooms with sea views. Each guest room has its own private bathroom with sink or washstand, a rolltop bath with a handheld hairwashing attachment. There is no shower.

Before you leave why not enjoy a stroll through the garden, the peach house, or sit in the summer house or even have a few minutes' quiet in the garden chapel.

We will do our best to make your visit to St Benedict an opportunity for you to be well looked after and even spoilt a little!

Hastings is a cosmopolitan coastal town which lies between the rugged beauty of the East and West Hills and has its own 660 acre country park. Home to Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet.

This charming market town grew up around the Abbey and takes its name from the 1066 battle between England's would-be rulers William, Duke of Normandy and the Saxon King Harold.

With famous international events & festivals in Goodwood, Glyndebourne,Chichester, Arundel, Eastbourne and Britain's newest National Park - The South Downs, Sussex is the place to visit this summer.
