"Time travel in comfort"
The owners have spent years returning this house to its Victorian origins and furnishing it in keeping. We stayed in the Colonel's room which had a very comfortable half tester bed and sole use of a bathroom and WC along the corridor. The sanitary ware was all Victorian of course, no shower, a washbasin with a few cracks and stiff taps (to be expected for its age) but a roll top bath and plenty of hot water, towels and dressing gowns. The garden too was beautiful. Read less

From the moment we were greeted by our smiling welcoming host, this was an extraordinary experience. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of freshly cooked food set out in dishes on the sideboard.

St Benedict is a beautiful and comfortable home built in 1881, and is finished and run with the style and comfort of a bygone age.

On arrival our guests may take tea on the lawns where a snowy cloth is laid with fine china and home baking straight from the Aga or in the winter sit in the drawing room in front of a roaring fire. If you wish you can arrange to have a full dinner in the victorian dining room with a choice of Mrs Beeton's traditional recipes prepared 'below stairs'.

Every morning tea can be brought to you before you come down for breakfast, served country house style. Help yourself to a full English breakfast or try such empire favourites as kedgeree.

We have two cosy second-floor double bedrooms with sea views. Each guest room has its own private bathroom with sink or washstand, a rolltop bath with a handheld hairwashing attachment. There is no shower.

Before you leave why not enjoy a stroll through the garden, the peach house, or sit in the summer house or even have a few minutes' quiet in the garden chapel.

We will do our best to make your visit to St Benedict an opportunity for you to be well looked after and even spoilt a little!

Hastings is a cosmopolitan coastal town which lies between the rugged beauty of the East and West Hills and has its own 660 acre country park. Home to Europe's largest beach-launched fishing fleet.

This charming market town grew up around the Abbey and takes its name from the 1066 battle between England's would-be rulers William, Duke of Normandy and the Saxon King Harold.

With famous international events & festivals in Goodwood, Glyndebourne,Chichester, Arundel, Eastbourne and Britain's newest National Park - The South Downs, Sussex is the place to visit this summer.
