Viner House was very homely and friendly and felt just as if you were visiting and staying with family. I liked the breakfast being cooked on the AGA, while we were eating in the same kitchen.

Likes:
Very friendly and willing to help. But not really worth the money. I loved the spiral staircase.
Dislikes:
We were not warned about the spiral staircase, and for incapacitated people they would have been impossible. They need a rope from top to bottom. No cereal for breakfast.

"Nice bed - shame about the breakfast"
Owner contacted me beforehand to say she would not be there (had to look after elderly relative), but someone wd be there to greet me. Would it be OK if I prepared my own breakfast? There would be cereal, fruit, bread and eggs. I said yes, as that was fine by me. I am not one for a "full English" and am happy doing my own thing. However, this would not suit everyone, esp if not used to an Aga, and I think it would have been nice to have offered a bit of discount. Read less
Likes:
It was an old, quirky building with lots of original features, ie wooden beams, in the rooms. Lovely and quiet and private with v comfy bed. Very close to town centre.
Dislikes:
The fact that the owner wasn't there and the kitchen, where I prepared my own breakfast, wasn't quite as clean as it could have been.

Stroud is a delightful place to visit with many activities and attractions within close proximity. We have superb restaurants, a thriving artistic community and annual festivals for textiles, food, walking, music and arts. The award-winning Farmers’ Market is weekly (Saturday) and is one of the best in the country. This is a place that repays investigation, especially for the quality and variety of artists at work in the area – you could also choose to take part in one of the many traditional workshops! The month of May sees Open Studios and the Select International textile festival. Stroud is also notable for being a hub of alternative lifestyles, therapies and culture, with many courses and workshops to offer.
Stroud is encircled by five sweeping valleys opening out to the River Severn and made famous by Laurie Lee’s novel “Cider with Rosie”. The scenery is dramatic around Stroud and the air and river are clear. It is a great meeting place, with direct links to London, making it a Bohemian/café/gallery/ bookshop sort of place. Jasper Conran described the town as ‘the Covent Garden of the Cotswolds’. Easy access to the countryside and Cheltenham, Swindon and Gloucester by train.
