Mallards provides peace and tranquillity yet only 25 metres from the centre of the charming village of Overton with interesting shops, pubs and restaurants dating back to medieval times.

Overton itself is set in the Centre of Hampshire, in countryside designated as an area of outstanding beauty. Ideal for walking, hiking and horse riding – Wayfarers Walk and Watership Down are just a few miles to the north. Jane Austen was born in Steventon just over 3 miles away. Overton is on the main railway line between London Waterloo (55 minutes) and Salisbury (30 minutes). London Heathrow is only 47 miles (55 minutes).

For those looking for a 'special' place to stay we offer – luxurious and beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms overlooking the River Test.
Luxury en-suite accommodation set in a beautiful waterfront location, on the River Test, a famous Hampshire chalk stream renowned as the home to fly-fishing.

Overton is an ancient village dating back to 909 when the parish was granted to the Bishops of Winchester. Situated at the head of Test Valley in the North Wessex Downs, Overton grew to become an important market town. A charter for an annual July Sheep fair (held in Winchester Street) dates back to 1246. This tradition was revived in 2000 and a Sheep Fair is now held every four year the next is July 2014.

The River Test is a beautiful ‘Chalk-Stream’ and its crystal clear water rises in the nearby village of Ashe. In bygone days the Test powered numerous water mills in Overton including a silk mill, which (circa 1810) employed as many as 190 children aged between 6 and 8.

Just 3 miles east of Overton is the village of Steventon where Jane Austen was born in 1775. Her father, Revd George Austen was Rector of St. Nicholas Church, Steventon.
