For us, the ability to walk our dog from the doorstep was very important. The walks are lovely and varied.
Dislikes:
I think we might have found the accommodation a bit cramped had both letting bedrooms been occupied. As it was, we had full use of the shared rooms.

The location, the hosts and lovely breakfasts.
Dislikes:
Shower pressure not great but to be expected in rural location.
No internet or mobile phone access but really all part of the charm and an addition to relaxation experience.

Footpaths lead in all directions within a few steps of the front door of the cottage, with access to the Vale of York, the Howardian Hills and the Yorkshire Moors. As well as being a popular area for cycling and riding, visitors to the region are attracted by the amenities close to The Granary Barn, which include award winning pub, ‘The Durham Ox’ at Crayke, and the nearby market town of Helmsley with its attractive stone houses and cottages, tea rooms, and delicatessens, and, of course, the famous Michelin starred pub ‘The Star at Harome’.

The local attractions of Riveaulx Abbey, Duncombe Park, Helmsley Walled Garden, and Castle Howard are all within easy driving distance, whilst York and all its attractions are only half an hour away. Helmsley also has an open air swimming pool open in the summer. Those who prefer swimming in the sea can explore the beautiful sands of the Scarborough and Whitby coast, only one hour away. Golf and riding are available locally and there is racing at York, Thirsk and Ripon.

One well-behaved dog is welcome to stay (as long as they get on with other dogs and don't chase the hens!).
