Likes:
Excellent location with enormous potential and an overworked single staff member manfully trying to do everything but he could not sensibly do everything
Dislikes:
The place is tired.Linen needs to be replaced. We were most surpirised that beds were not made, rubbish removed and facilities updated each day. That happens even in 2 star accomodation.
Response from The Old Rectory Country House:
Bathroom refurbished 2013. Tapestry headboard - specialist reproduction June 2014. Rest of furniture is antique. That being said, some of the "brown" furniture will be replaced during our next restoration phase in Nov. or Jan. when we will also restore the main hall. Linen - all Egyptian - none more than two years old (when we opened). Staff - 1 Full time Butler and 4 part time.staff. Rooms - welcome letter - "please let us know if you would like us to enter your room and clean it each day"

We arrived a little early but instead of a welcome we were locked out until dead on 4.30pm and had to vacate our rooms by 10.30am. This felt unwelcoming and I have not experienced this anywhere else

The Old Rectory is a 5 star, Grade 2 listed, historic country house, located in a peaceful hamlet of Great Waldingfield in the south of Suffolk.

Situated between the historic and beautiful Lavenham, Long Melford and Sudbury, we are perfectly placed to visit the many attractions that Suffolk offers, be it on foot, on a bike or by car.

We offer large double ensuite bedrooms in the delightful surroundings of our extensive gardens. An ideal place for a romantic break.

The gardens at The Old Rectory offer space to relax in or expend a bit of energy. We have a wonderful lawn (with some challenging bumps) for a game of croquet, an all weather tennis court with a collection of racquets and balls for your use, a swimming pool, a Heatwave sauna and an honesty bar located in the drawing-room, all to enjoy.

You can explore the area on wonderful walks and bike rides from The Old Rectory or further afield. We will happily supply maps, picnics and fill your flasks for your adventure.
Environmental Statement
The Old Rectory takes the following measures, amongst many others, to protect the environment. Water for watering the gardens is taken from the "sacred" spring which would otherwise flood under the house. We use a Biomass boiler system to provide heating and hot water throughout our buildings. Recycling is used wherever possible. All produce is locally sourced. Lighting has been replaced wherever possible with energy saving alternatives.
