Likes:
The location and the village.
Dislikes:
For us the bed mattress was rather soft but in fairness that is very much a matter of personal preference.
Response from The Old Parsonage:
Thanks Mary. Hope your eventual journey home wasn't too bad.

Gracious service; provides food/room requests immediately.Jennie knows how to 'boil an egg'- her food service experience shows.Similar dinner experience at Son's Lymington Arms Pub and reataurant-salmon with a gourmet touch. I am a retired Registered Dietian so appreciate good food and service. Read less
Likes:
It was quiet(except for church bells on the quarter hour) and easily accessible. Service was excellent and timely.
Dislikes:
One must remember of course that the accommodations are on the church ground proper so bells do ring. Entrance way smells a bit 'musty' but the Parsonage is a relic so is expected. Character abounds!
Response from The Old Parsonage:
Thanks so much Penny. It was lovely to meet you. Enjoy the honey,!

We were greeted by the owner Jenny. She took us to our room and told us the routine for milk and breakfast etc. The room was full of character. The house dates back to 1600s I understand. The decor was really in keeping with the building. Lovely bathroom with piping hot water. Loads of sockets and lights for all areas of room. Yea and coffee facilities. Bed comfortable and there was an oil filled radiator in the room to use if you needed to get more cosy. Read less

Mentioned as a property in the Doomsday Book. We know it was owned by the Deanery of Exeter until 1906 when it was purchased by the Johnson family who lived here until the 1970s. Both father and son were the local squires of Winkleigh, owning a lot of other property and land. Groom Cottage once, as the name implies, was that thatched cottage that housed the coach and the coachmen/groom and the thatched barn housed two ponies. The back of the house (all thatched) has a 'hidden courtyard' and the now bed and breakfast rooms were once the gardener's cottage. The garden is at its best during April/May when the Azaleas and Rhododendrons are in bloom. Please Note: We are a No-Smoking property. Regrettably, we cannot accept pets. Check-In time: 16:00 and Check-Out time: 10:00.
