Likes:
Accommodation all on one floor ideal for toddlers. Gardens fantastic for children.
Although breakfast items supplied in the cottages it was wonderful to have access to the tearoom for brunch.
Dislikes:
Unfortunately we had a theft while putting children to bed and the living area was left empty - entrance was through French windows which we had left open due to the wonderful weather.

Cockenzie House and Gardens is a charity set up to bring this hidden 17th Century gem into community ownership. With two self catering cottages, we are open on a daily basis offering practical and elegant spaces for hire within easy access from Edinburgh - excellent exhibition and function space, a traditional tea room, studio space for artists and professional businesses and, of course, holiday accommodation.

We are less than one minute's walk from the John Muir Way and the shores of the Firth of Forth, less than 30 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh and within very easy access of East Lothian's fantastic range of golf courses.

In addition, the Mercat Cottage offers:

- Free Wireless Internet
- A complimentary breakfast hamper
- Free parking
- Patio area looking out on to our listed gardens
- Easy access to Falko's Secret Garden Tea Room
- Close access to the Hecla Gallery, offering for sale a wide range of art, sculpture and design from East Lothian
- Dog friendly facilities.

Bedrooms

The Mercat features one double room, the Blooming Room, named after Cockenzie & Port Seton's award winning Ladies in Bloom group and one twin room, commemorating the Cockenzie Power Station which was decommissioned in 2013 and became world famous in 2015 when the twin chimneys were demolished. Along the corridor, guests can find our 'Seton Sands' shower room and 'Boat Shore' Bog.

Living Accommodation

Our 'Heritage Room' allows guests access to the well equipped shabby chic kitchen and the comfortable sitting area with coloured television and entry out onto the private patio. This, in turn leads out on to our listed gardens where guests can walk amongst the apple trees from which Bonnie Prince Charlie's Highlanders fed after the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745, or across the lawns where Sir Walter Scott and Turner would have discussed the illustrations of the Waverley Novels. We offer a complimentary breakfast hamper
