"Lovely, relaxing stay"
We stayed here desperately seeking a weekend away from the chaos of London, and we certainly found it at Cardynham House. The staff were very friendly, the place itself is absolutely lovely and the room was comfortable. We left feeling completely relaxed and happy. The surrounding village and area is absolutely beautiful; we spent much of our time walking between the villages, enjoying the views and greenery surrounding us. The staff were really helpful in letting us know what routes to take. Read less

The building is in the centre of the village of Painswick, which is extremely beautiful. The food was pretty good and the Medieval room in which we stayed was very picturesque.
Dislikes:
The breakfast hours could have been a little more expansive, perhaps (I think it was from 8-9.30, which was fine but we were hoping for a bit more of a lie-in at the weekend).
Response from Cardynham House:
Thank you for your very nice comments - we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the time you have taken to do your review.

Our breakfast times are related to our latest check out time of 11AM and also our earliest check in time of 12:30 and Bistro opening for lunch at 12 noon.

Dislikes:
the website states that there is wifi, this is EXTREMELY limited( you literally have to be siting in the lounge by the router) this was a bit of a problem for our communication needs.

The staff were friendly, the breakfasts were good and the shower in the room was one of the better hotel showers we have experienced.
Dislikes:
The bed was a divan surrounded by a four poster bedframe, because of the lack of height to the mattress it was really awkward to get in and out of the bed. Also we never saw the owner of the B&B.
Response from Cardynham House:
The mattress in this room is a very good quality Dreams 1200 pocket sprung one less than six months old. We would happily have offered an alternative room and it is a pity our guest did not mention anything to any of my staff as they would have told me and I or they would have shown the reviewer our other available room choices - it was not necessary to wait in the hope that I would be at the property to bring this up as any of my staff would have done just this.

Cardynham House is a charming comfortable hideaway in a Cotswold village close to Stroud in delightful Gloucestershire.

It enjoys a 4 Star Guest Accommodation Rating. Nestling quietly in the Cotswold hills, surrounded by some of Gloucestershire's most outstanding countryside is the historic wool town of Painswick. Built of mellow Cotswold stone from the local quarry on Painswick Beacon the town's many beautiful buildings can be seen as you wander around it's quaint and narrow streets.

There is a variety of small shops and galleries to browse around with pubs and restaurants. The Slad Valley, made famous by Laurie Lee in his book 'Cider with Rosie' is also noted for its wild flowers as is Scotsquar Common at Edge. Edge, Slad and Sheepscombe are all villages within walking distance of Painswick and well worth a visit.
The celebrated Rococo Gardens at Painswick House are open to the public throughout most of the year. In late Winter and early spring the carpets of snowdrops are truly breathtaking.

Cardynham House is a 15th-16th Century Grade 2* listed house. There is wealth of character to be found in every room each one decorated in a style of its own.

The house itself has a residents lounge with open fireplace and adjacent to this a conservatory with comfortable chairs overlooking a small internal courtyard.
Throughout the house are objects of interest, books, magazines and art works.

Check-in is from 12:30 to 22:00 & Check-out is by 11:00. Our rooms are all non-smoking.
