We had a wonderful time staying at Burkey house. It is a place that I was evacuated to during the war and had always wanted to go back to and see how it had changed. The rooms were beautiful and warm. Lesley was so helpful and welcoming. Always there to give advice about trips out and places to eat. Had a fantastic trip down memory lane. Read less

"Friendly people, comfortable room and good food - what more could you want?"
I stayed in one of the rooms accessed from the car park, enjoying having my own entrance and the deep bathtub. I wanted to visit a gallery in Kirbymoorside, also spent time at the coast, walking locally and visiting Pickering and Helmsley. Plenty of pubs within a couple of miles and one a short stroll away for meals. Take a torch - no streetlights. Read less

I received a warm welcome, including tea and home baked cake. The owners are both very friendly without being intrusive. Fresh milk for making drinks a nice touch, also fresh fruit for breakfast.
Dislikes:
I would have liked to know there was no internet reception in some rooms, in which case I would have chosen differently.
Response from Burnley House:
Hello Sue. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us at Burnley House. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. With regards to the internet, we are very hopeful that BT will carry on with their Roll Out Program to the moors and we will get a much stronger signal which will reach our courtyard rooms. We hope to see you again in the future. Take Care. Kind Regards Stuart and Lesley

Busy city life can play havoc on your health. A weekend in the country can relax you and revitalise you. Burnley House does that with good food, oood walking areas and fantastic atmosphere.
.
Only 40 miles North of York this lovely old house situated in the beautiful village of Hutton-le-Hole on the edge of the North York Moors, is ideally situated for market towns, shopping in the fabulous city of York, the coast and, of course, the moors. Here you are free to visit the numerous stately homes, go to the Jurassic coasts of Whitby and Scarborough or simply wander the moors and see the wonderful hidden dales and villages. Oh there's so much to do!
After using up all that energy why not enjoy a delicious meal and a drink in one of the wonderful eateries that are in abundance around here.

This time of year Spring is on the way, the birds are starting to pair up and in no time at all the Farndale Daffodils will be out. These are the largest collection of wild native daffodils in the country. Have a look at www.real-whitby.co.uk/farndale-daffodil-walk? to see where they are and download a map of the walk.
Although in the past the North York Moors Authority have arranged a special bus to take the hundreds of visitors to see them the NYMA never told the daffodils and so they did not always flower at the right time. Thats the trouble with wild things they have a mind of their own.
