Crosshill House stands at the top of the village of Laxton in Nottinghamshire looking down the main street and close to the Visitor Centre and the friendly village pub, The Dovecote Inn. Laxton is famous as the last village in the country still practicing the open field strip farming system and the main street through the village is much used by the farmers travelling to their strips in the three open fields. There is a comfortable guest lounge with a roaring log burner to warm the winter visitor and large, colourful gardens to help our guests unwind. Breakfast is cooked on the Aga and served in the light airy dining room.

There are too many beautiful views in and around Crosshill House to show them all here. In summer you can relax in the beautiful gardens; at Christmas share the magic of the season with us through our decorations.

Laxton itself is a popular destination for visitors interested in the history of the village, which is the last example in the country of a working three field strip farming system. Laxton's Court Leet is the last such court in the country which retains the jurisdiction to hear and determine legal proceedings. Laxton is also home to the best preserved motte and bailey castle in Nottinghamshire which is only a short walk from Crosshill House and most people can manage the walk up to the earth works, if not the climb to the top of the castle mound itself.

Enjoy walking, cycling, and jogging, around Laxton's open fields and surrounding villages. Please note that Crosshill House is fully non-smoking. We do not accommodate pets, but are pleased to make an exception for guide dogs and other assistance dogs. . The nearest railway stations are at Retford and Newark and you would need a taxi from there.( 10 miles approx. )
