Likes:
Nice warm accommodation
Dislikes:
Duvet cover too heavy and being unable to sleep was a nightmare.
Response from The Olde Sweet Shoppe Guesthouse:
Hi there, we are sorry you could not sleep and yes you are correct we are in the centre of Southwell which can be busy at rush hour. Unfortunately the night you stayed, the railway crossing near Newark was closed all night for repair and all the heavy traffic was diverted through Southwell as it is not usual for there to be any noise from traffic at night as it is a B Road and heavy traffic is sent down the A Roads. Thanks for the lovely review you left in our guest book.

Two homely Georgian rooms with a warm welcome, in the lovely bustling market town of Southwell. Your own key to the rooms with kitchenette, including fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, cutlery and crockery. There is a sofa bed, table and 2 chairs, shower room and toilet, double bed, large TV, wardrobe, hairdryer, side tables and full central heating with extra heaters should you require an additional boost of heat. The house was built in 1756 and is a Grade II listed building so has some quirky original features in the rooms e.g. beams and old inbuilt welsh dresser. The wooden floors are also good for children and pets. Each of the two rooms has windows and/or door both sides of the room so are flooded with light.

The Olde Sweet Shoppe is just a stones throw from the historic Southwell Minster and 5 minutes walk from the centre of Southwell with its lovely boutiques, coffee shops and market. Southwell is known as the "millionaires town of the East Midlands" and features many large houses, prebends, The Old Workhouse, a Tourist information centre, Southwell Racecourse etc. It is surrounded by by rural countryside, walks, and visitor attractions. There is a walk just 20 yards away onto the fields behind us. Opposite the accommodation is The Bramley Apple Pub serving lovely breakfasts (prior arrangement with the Landlord) and there are 2 other pubs within 600 yards, serving lovely succulent food and Sunday roasts. A newsagents which also serves breakfasts and lunch to take away is 60 yards down the road and a bus stop to Nottingham is only 20 yards away too. There is no parking at the property but lots of parking on the road outside, nearby Farthingate or in the car park of the Hearty GoodFellow pub about 50 yards away, by prior permission of the Landlord and serves lovely food.

Pets (well behaved dogs and small pets) are welcome but no cats please. The family live on site in the main house so are always available to help if there is anything you need
