"A pretty well perfect walker's retreat in the Cairngorms"
I fell in love with the Cairngorms a few years back and have stayed on the West side of the NP, around Aviemore. A couple of years ago I passed through Braemar and loved the smaller, more intimate scale of the place and the feeling of being just a little bit off the busiest tourist trail. It's really well located for some good walking and bagging of a few more Munros or Corbetts. I was here for 5 nights and had a great time, good walking each day and great dining in the evening! Likes:
The ambience of the place (especially the Whisky bar) and the friendliness of the staff. The food was excellent and the chef's whisky gravy should be bottled and sold! Cabins & bunkhouse in grounds.
Dislikes:
A hint for others, not a complaint: I booked a (the?) single room and it was clean/comfy but (obviously) Victorian small. I'll aim for a small cabin or a double room (which all looked big!) next time.

A warm Scottish welcome awaits you.

Dating from 1870, this splendid Victorian shooting lodge is set in its own grounds only two-minute’s stroll from the centre of Braemar. Best described as a hotel of character, it has the air of a large family house that has not forgotten its sporting origins, and is personally managed by the owners, thus ensuring a continuity of the finest standards.

Built of grey granite that glitters in the highland sunshine, Braemar Lodge Hotel enjoys the illustrious history of being a former Victorian shooting lodge. The local red deer population have obviously forgotten its past for they are often to be seen running through the grounds of the hotel, particularly during the winter months.

Braemar Lodge Hotel extends a welcoming, comfortable ambience that is evident from the moment you step through the door.

There are seven bedrooms, three doubles, two twins and two singles, all of which have en-suite facilities, a television and tea and coffee making facilities. Family rooms are also available.

Surrounded by the beauty of Deeside, Braemar Lodge Hotel is in a quiet setting only a two minute walk from the village itself.
