"A great find in South Wales"
This is a wonderful little hotel, with excellent service and attention to detail not normally found in small establishments. Norma, Stephen, Mo and team run everything smoothly and while hostng weddings and other celebrations, manage to still sccomodate other guests. The food was wonderful and we found ourselves wanting more days to enable us to try more dishes. Of special note is the duck leg confit and the grilled peach and parma salad for starters, and the fish cakes and lamb for mains. Read less

Food, service and attention to detail were second to none. The rooms were all well stocked with amenities including homemade cookies.
Dislikes:
While the location was perfect for us for attending the Senior Open Golf, there is virtually nothing in the village. No dinner or bar service on Sunday night (although a cold tray was offered).

"Relaxing, comfortable and friendly establishment in good position to visit local attractions"
We spent 3 nights at this hotel whilst daily visiting Seniors golf tournament in Porthcawl. We were in the coach house which was lovely - actually pleased not to be in main building during such hot weather. The room was nicely decorated and everything necessary for short stay was provided. We only ate at the hotel on one evening - meal was lovely - very well presented and beautifully cooked. It was very nice to be able to sit in the lovely garden to enjoy the meal. Read less

Comfortable and relaxing with good standard of accommodation
Dislikes:
Only a very small 'gripe'- local church bells ringing on 1/4 hour - no problem during day, but irritating all through the night especially at the o'clock hours

Welcome to The Great House Hotel, a grade II listed building, believed to have been a gift from Queen Elizabeth 1 to the Earl of Leicester for use as a hunting lodge. More modern day Royal connections are via His Royal Highness Charles, Prince of Wales who has visited when travelling throughout Wales.

Conveniently situated just 5 minutes from M4 junctions 35 and 37, the hotel is located in the heart of the Conservation village of Laleston and overlooks the ancient village church. Some of the places of interest close by include the old thatched village of Merthyr Mawr and Candleston Dunes. We are also well placed for a range of walks and 10 golf courses including the championship courses at The Royal Porthcawl and Pyle and Kenfig. Margam Abbey and Country Park are also just 5 minutes away.

Leicester's Restaurant at The Great House has twice been awarded Country Restaurant of the Year and holds 2 AA Rosettes. There is also a small health suite with a sauna, Jacuzzi and keep fit equipment. Free wireless broadband access.
