"Shame about the room."
It was pleasant enough, but having a wife with MND makes getting to the very top room somewhat tiring, especially with luggage.
The room itself was incredibly badly furnished, decorated and styled in a haphazard way. The paintwork was atrocious, my grandchildren could have done better. Very dark choice of colours for such a dark space. Woodchip paper, so ancient, should have been plastered over. As for the bathroom, the pressure of a very ancient shower was non-existent & the running water Hmm. Read less

"Bed was fantastic plumbing terrible"
The bed was great, very clean and exceptionally comfortable. However, the electric shower was either stone cold or scalding hot. There was no hot water for a bath in spite of running the taps for 20 minutes. The drainage in the sink was slow with unpleasant stuff backing up.
The stair carpet going up to the rooms was grubby and in dire need of a modern replacement.
The two staff I met were not friendly and welcoming. The croisssant at breakfast was an uneatable stodgy dough.

Through a cobbled archway on West Wycombe High Street, you come to the entrance of a coaching inn built in the early 18th Century. When you walk in, it feels quite natural that people have been doing this for almost three centuries. Generations of traders, travellers, lovers and visitors have left traces of their presence on the building and its atmosphere, not least of whom is Sukie, the beautiful social climber whose ghost is said to haunt the building.

The attentive service you receive from our staff, however, leaves you in no doubt that you are in the present now. Whether you hope for quick service for a business lunch or a more relaxed pace for dinner with friends, you will not be disappointed. On a fine day, you can sit in our large garden.

You can stay at the George and Dragon, and will find your luxury bedroom both modern and old fashioned, comfortable and interesting. We have two family rooms , two of the rooms have four-poster beds and all of them have the uneven floorboards and quirky angles that come with age. One room straddles the archway into the inn's courtyard and another gives a view over the old roofs and chimneys of West Wycombe. Recent concessions to modern living include direct dial telephones, en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities and freeview TV.

Our chefs have created an exciting and intriguing menu which is English at heart including local game, English cheeses, traditional puddings with all locally sourced ingredients. Some menu items and daily specials will represent the chefs' selection from the rest of the world and may include dishes from the Mediterranean and the Far East. As you would expect from an establishment where good dining is such a high priority, we also have a choice of well kept real ales, an excellent wine list and a fine range of malt whiskies.
