We stayed two nights and the facilities were good. We were visiting friends and sight seeing so we didn't spend much time in the room. Clean and convenient. Close to the co op supermarket and a couple of decent restaurants. There's a hairdryer and iron too which you often don't get somewhere so cheap. Read less

Room is surprisingly quiet considering you are on a major road and music venue. I would stay there again.
Dislikes:
Although the room is non smoking, you can def smell smoke upstairs, I think it travels up from the beer garden.

"A noisy music venue with homeless drunks on the benches outside"
Nice staff, clean basic room. Slightly tired shared toilet and shower room. Rubbish for parking. Very noisy Friday night with the added hassle of drunk homeless people at four in the morning.… Read more

Likes:
Walking distance to centre of town. Nice pizza van and interesting bar nearby.
Dislikes:
See above. I didn't shop around and was recommended by a friend but I thought it expensive for what it is although I don't know what else one can get for the money in Cambridge.

Very convenient for seeing the band who were playing
Dislikes:
That Scottish money was not accepted as legal tender in the bar.
Response from The Portland Arms:
Hi Ann, unfortunately this was down to inexperienced staff. It is true we do not accept Scottish or Irish £20 notes, this is simply because we have had a spike in forgeries going around Cambridge. The member of staff dealing with you should have used their discretion and i can only apologise. We will be reviewing our policy.
