We stayed for 3 nights to attend our Son's wedding in Saffron Walden and subsequent reception in Sawston. We only had one evening meal at the Inn but this was because of other arrangements. The meal we had was very substantial and good value. The room was a good size and included a comfortable sofa. We visited the nearby Duxford Air Museum which is highly recommended. Read less

Very convenient location for our purposes. Food was excellent, both the evening meal and breakfasts. A nice informal atmosphere and all staff were friendly and helpful.

"Overnight stay."
We stayed one night in outside room 3 at rear of pub next to beer garden, so privacy not brilliant - room a little cramped with rather dreary lighting, and walls between us and neighbouring rooms 'thin'. Small TV high up on wall which made the picture very unclear. Shower was really good, and bed comfortable. Generally very clean. We had an evening meal which was good quality, as was breakfast. Found staff to be friendly and helpful. Read less

Ideal for one or two nights stay.
Dislikes:
Size of room was a drawback, and would not have wanted a longer stay.

The John Barleycorn was originally built in 1660 as a coaching house. Between 1844 and 1852 it was licensed under the sign of the Coach and Horses. At first it was known as a public house, though later a beer house. The existing name, The John Barleycorn, came into being between 1858 and 1861. During the Second World War it became a favourite watering hole for the brave young airmen of Douglas Bader's Duxford Wing.

The John Barleycorn remains a very traditional English pub, serving some of the best kept ales in the country. It also enjoys an excellent reputation for serving the very best in genuine home prepared and cooked meals. We also provide accomidation for those you would like to rest after a meal.

Ideally situated to discover East Anglia. Punting on the cam, racing at Newmarket, concerts at Audley End House or a winters walk to Granchester. Plus, we are only 20min from Stanstead Airport
