Peaceful away from it all location, restaurant without the dreaded muzak background noise. The restaurant and bar closes at 11 so a good nights sleep is guaranteed. All the staff are really pleasant.

"Lovely place however..."
Firstly I am a big fan of the restaurant and we have never stayed here before but it was a birthday treat. The room/suite size was good and we slept well. It was a bit cold but we didn't alter the heating so I accept that may have been our problem. The meal was delicious as was the breakfast (no toast though) and we loved the option of having it delivered to our room. Read less

The food is superb as always
Dislikes:
The décor was a bit dated and some cobwebs/cleaning issues not that it was dirty but a stray hair and cobweb here and there and the shower head wouldn't holster let the place down a bit.

The rooms offer a variety of accommodation to suit every need and have been awarded 4 Stars by the AA and Tourist Board.

The Anchor is ideally situated for exploring East Anglia; it is only 7 miles from the Cathedral City of Ely and is less than half an hour from the University City of Cambridge. Newmarket and its Race-course are within easy reach. Our Places to visit page gives full details of the many fascinating attractions within easy reach.

The Anchor Inn has evolved over the last 350 years and now offers every modern facility, but with a timeless charm and character that ensures you still experience a feeling of true antiquity. Scrubbed pine tables on gently undulating floors, antique prints and roaring log fires in the winter all enhance the cosy, intimate atmosphere of this family run English Inn. Recognition has been won from all of the major food guides including Good Food Guide, Good Pub Guide, Michelin Guide, Which Guide to Country Pubs (Rosette for food), AA 4 Stars and Rosette and Which Hotel Guide.

Ely is a perfect one day or short break destination. The first port of call for any visitor to Ely today will almost certainly be the Cathedral. This imposing structure towers across the fens for miles around. Dominating the skyline, it is one of England's most beautiful and largest Cathedrals. Known locally as the 'Ship of the Fens' it is famous for its unique Octagon tower, which when lit can be seen for tens of miles. The Cathedral is also home to the only national museum dedicated to Stained Glass. If it's history you're interested in then Ely Museum, housed in the city's old gaol, is an excellent place to start..
