This was our second stay at the Anchor on our way to Norfolk. We love the stunning location on the bank of the New Bedford River with its array of wildlife. The suite, while not the most up to date in style is comfortable and well equipped. The food is excellent and well presented. Read less

The welcome is friendly and thoughtful. The suite is spacious and equipped with a fridge with fresh milk and water. It is particularly nice to have a lounge area in which to relax.
Dislikes:
There were quite a few spiders in the room but I think that was due to the time of year!

Room was very poor quality for the price of the stay, jumble of furniture in the bedroom in front of the radiator. Needs a good sot out and rethink.

The rooms offer a variety of accommodation to suit every need and have been awarded 4 Stars by the AA and Tourist Board.

The Anchor is ideally situated for exploring East Anglia; it is only 7 miles from the Cathedral City of Ely and is less than half an hour from the University City of Cambridge. Newmarket and its Race-course are within easy reach. Our Places to visit page gives full details of the many fascinating attractions within easy reach.

The Anchor Inn has evolved over the last 350 years and now offers every modern facility, but with a timeless charm and character that ensures you still experience a feeling of true antiquity. Scrubbed pine tables on gently undulating floors, antique prints and roaring log fires in the winter all enhance the cosy, intimate atmosphere of this family run English Inn. Recognition has been won from all of the major food guides including Good Food Guide, Good Pub Guide, Michelin Guide, Which Guide to Country Pubs (Rosette for food), AA 4 Stars and Rosette and Which Hotel Guide.

Ely is a perfect one day or short break destination. The first port of call for any visitor to Ely today will almost certainly be the Cathedral. This imposing structure towers across the fens for miles around. Dominating the skyline, it is one of England's most beautiful and largest Cathedrals. Known locally as the 'Ship of the Fens' it is famous for its unique Octagon tower, which when lit can be seen for tens of miles. The Cathedral is also home to the only national museum dedicated to Stained Glass. If it's history you're interested in then Ely Museum, housed in the city's old gaol, is an excellent place to start..
