Likes:
Accommodation built in the garden to a high standard and well designed. We had a disability bathroom which was the best one that we have ever had.Lots of tables in the garden to enjoy the good weather.
Dislikes:
Would be better if the back doors were opened to enable those with walking problems to enter the restaurant and pub avoiding the 4 steps and narrow front entrance.

Dog friendly place, able to have dog in bar to eat. Helpful and friendly staff, good room. Easy access.

Wonderful food, delicious and delicate flavours from a chef not afraid to be innovative.
Dislikes:
I would like to have had mattress toppers on the bed - the mattresses were a tad hard.
Also, the food deserves more refined cutlery.

"Cosy, attractive pub in a charming village with great food and superb staff."
We chose the Red Lion primarily for convenience, due to its location near to a friend's house but found the pub to be lovely. Some old pubs look charming and traditional from the outside but are ruined with modern furnishings and too bright lights inside. Not so the Red Lion. It was very lovely, as were the staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. The standard of the cooking for both dinner and breakfast was very good indeed. Read less

I love birds so the Dove Cote with its flock of white doves in the garden was a treat. The pub itself is full of character, as is the Landlord who is charming.
Dislikes:
The rooms were fine but lacked the character of the pub. The bathroom was odd; like a hospital. No tub or shower cubicle, just a flesh coloured wet room with big grab rails and wheelchair supports.

We have just two establishments - The Red Lion since 2003 and its sister, The Black Bull at Balsham since 2011.

This historic, Grade II listed pub provides the perfect backdrop for enjoying fabulous food (AA Rosette) and drink (four real ales on the pumps and 50 wines, including 20 by the glass). Exposed beams, well stoked fires and Chesterfield sofas invite you to stay a while and relax, while an impressive oak, dry peg restaurant is an elegant, spacious room in which to dine.

The eight well-appointed guest rooms (4 AA Stars) are set apart from the rest of the pub, discretely positioned in the grounds for minimum impact on the main Grade II listed building, and enjoying their own private garden area. They are a single storey, mews style flint and brick construction, in keeping with many of the houses in the conservation village, each with their own entrance from the garden.

All rooms enjoy en-suite bath/shower facilities, free internet, TV/radio/CD/DVD and direct dial phone. There is a choice of five Super King (6ft) doubles/twins and three King (5ft) doubles. Two of the rooms have an interconnecting door – ideal for families and carers.

In the warmer months, the inn’s quintessentially English, Cambridge-walled garden is a tranquil setting in which to eat, drink and socialise under the watchful gaze of the dovecote and village church clock tower.

The menu comprises contemporary and traditional dishes, created with culinary flair and using only the freshest, locally sourced seasonal produce.

When booking, if you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact the pub to confirm your correct email address.
