Likes:
Relaxed, quiet location, which had a bit of a buzz in the evenings with more customers at bar and restaurant. Breakfast and dinner of high standard, service very good.
Dislikes:
Not really, but the floors in our rooms could do with a soft brush....and there were a few cobwebs on the ceiling of the restaurant - everything was very clean otherwise!

"Staff making lewd conversation."
We stayed two nights to see some friends in the next village. We arrived at 9pm on the friday night after a long drive and went to the bar for a drink. The kitchen staff had clocked off for the night and were having a drink in the bar. They were loud, but that was okay, until one of the gentlemen started to talk about masturbation. This conversation went on for 10 minutes and made us uncomfortable, especially as we knew that they were the people who would be preparing our food for the weekend. Read less

Dislikes:
I do not like to spend a considerable amount on a room for two nights only to have to listen to the staff be so vulgar. This made the whole stay feel cheap, but the cost was anything but.

"Bad, bad, bad"
Garlanded with AA Rosettes it may be but this place served me with appalling food. Leek and potato soup was a bowl of green cream with pencil shavings on top, and it tasted like it. Sent it back. The Caesar salad featured ancient bog standard frozen chicken burned slightly on a bed of grease sodden croutons. Ugh. Sent back. The puddings were described so pretentiously that I decided not to chance it. I asked for a simple ice cream which miraculously was edible. Avoid this place !!!!!!!!!! Read less

The no managerial staff were friendly ad efficient, but they appeared to understand there were problems.
Dislikes:
The guest rooms are faced with attractive brick and attractive slate pieces, in the local style. However, inside they are pure bod standard Travelodge. Thin walls, minimal facilities.

We have just two establishments - The Red Lion for twelve years and its sister, The Black Bull at Balsham for five years.

This historic, Grade II listed pub provides the perfect backdrop for enjoying fabulous food (AA Rosette) and drink (four real ales on the pumps and 50 wines, including 20 by the glass). Exposed beams, well stoked fires and Chesterfield sofas invite you to stay a while and relax, while an impressive oak, dry peg restaurant is an elegant, spacious room in which to dine.

The eight well-appointed guest rooms (4 AA Stars) are set apart from the rest of the pub, discretely positioned in the grounds for minimum impact on the main Grade II listed building, and enjoying their own private garden area. They are a mews style flint and brick construction, in keeping with many of the houses in the conservation village.

All rooms enjoy en-suite bath/shower facilities, free internet, TV/radio/CD/DVD and direct dial phone. There is a choice of five Super King (6ft) doubles/twins and three King (5ft) doubles. Two of the rooms have an interconnecting door – ideal for families and carers.

In the warmer months, the inn’s quintessentially English, Cambridge walled garden is a tranquil setting in which to eat, drink and socialize under the watchful gaze of the dovecote and village church clock tower.

The menu comprises contemporary and traditional dishes, created with culinary flair and using only the freshest, locally sourced seasonal produce.
