Likes:
Convenient, comfortable room, nice pub with good beers, reasonably priced menu and wine list, friendly and efficient staff.
Dislikes:
Could often hear talking from room next door - wall between rooms could do with additional soundproofing - but overall this was not a significant problem and we will definitely stay again.

Convenient for Cambridge and Saffron Waldon

I would have preferred not to be in the disabled room but I suppose that was all that was left but it meant there was no bath. The lighting outside didn't come on at first

We have just two establishments - The Red Lion since 2003 and its sister, The Black Bull at Balsham since 2011.

This historic, Grade II listed pub provides the perfect backdrop for enjoying fabulous food (AA Rosette) and drink (four real ales on the pumps and 50 wines, including 20 by the glass). Exposed beams, well stoked fires and Chesterfield sofas invite you to stay a while and relax, while an impressive oak, dry peg restaurant is an elegant, spacious room in which to dine.

The eight well-appointed guest rooms (4 AA Stars) are set apart from the rest of the pub, discretely positioned in the grounds for minimum impact on the main Grade II listed building, and enjoying their own private garden area. They are a single storey, mews style flint and brick construction, in keeping with many of the houses in the conservation village, each with their own entrance from the garden.

All rooms enjoy en-suite bath/shower facilities, free internet, TV/radio/CD/DVD and direct dial phone. There is a choice of five Super King (6ft) doubles/twins and three King (5ft) doubles. Two of the rooms have an interconnecting door – ideal for families and carers.

In the warmer months, the inn’s quintessentially English, Cambridge-walled garden is a tranquil setting in which to eat, drink and socialise under the watchful gaze of the dovecote and village church clock tower.

The menu comprises contemporary and traditional dishes, created with culinary flair and using only the freshest, locally sourced seasonal produce.

When booking, if you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact the pub to confirm your correct email address.
