"Magnificent staff!"
This was our annual "We don't buy presents none of us want any more, let's go away instead" trip. We settled on the Black Bull, and although first impressions were less than good, having to go up a steep staircase surrounded by walls in need of a lick of paint, these reservations were soon overcome by the clean rooms and bathrooms and the sheer friendliness of the staff. Huge white fluffy towels were supplied and extra heaters were in place in the rooms on what was an extremely cold weekend. Read less
Likes:
Undoubtedly the staff. They were friendly and helpful - and I got a HUGE glass of wine for not making a fuss over what was a very minor glitch.
Dislikes:
Not really. It's not the Ritz, but we didn't pay Ritz money! We had a nice meal there on our first night (good veggie options for two of us).

Likes:
Friendly, helpful staff. Not much traffic noise in the room, comfortable bed. Food options were largely 'pub grub' but quite acceptable and well-served in a dining room with a welcoming open fire.
Dislikes:
Room looked a bit tired and the stairs to the bedrooms very tired.

The Black Bull is an old historic coaching Inn that with it's new refurbishment elegantly blends the old with the new. Dating back 400 years the Black Bull has a wonderful history that reads almost as a novel. Once serving as a hospital for Belgian refugees during WWI it has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment as it has become part of the reputable Illustrious Pub Company. The restaurant seats up to 60 people and has a great classic British menu that is all home cooked to high standards by an experienced brigade of chefs. It has a character bar with WIFI that is popular with locals and respected by CAMRA for having three well maintained ales. You will always find Theakstons Black Bull Ale on and two other ales that have been hand picked by the Manager Claire.

The pub also benefits from having an independent function room with private bar and meeting room with Wifi. The 'Bull Room' as it has come to be known can seat up to 70 people for a sit down meal or up 100 people for a cocktail party.

The bed rooms which have also be refurbished are to a high standard with brand new bathrooms, beds, WIFI, and flat screen televisions. Included in the room rate you will find a selection of teas and coffees and a self serve continental style breakfast.

Close to the market town of Huntingdon and with great transport links to London and other cities, Godmanchester is an ideal place to break of a long trip or just as nice as a destination for a getaway.
