Cwmberach Uchaf Farm, Glanaman

Ammanford,

Carmarthenshire,

SA18 2DZ,  United Kingdom
Cwmberach Uchaf Farm, from which the Black Mountain Company is based, covers 80 acres on the beautifully wild Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The Shepherd huts are situated in a sheltered corner of the farm, with amazing views over the Amman valley and the mountain, whilst the loft is part of a recently converted Farm building on the farm yard. We are also a Feather Down site and hope to expand our business into the future including survival training and other activities.

"Beautiful accommodation with friendly hosts"
We only stayed one night but wish it had been more, the Lodge is really lovely and my daughters and I really loved our stay. Sarah and her Mum are very friendly and helpful. The facilities are very well presented really clean and to a very high standard. The breakfast was great too, we just popped down from the loft and collected our basket with warm croissants, a choice of cereals, yoghurt, juice etc. All in all a lovely place and I would definitely recommend it. "Welcoming host and great accommodation."
Two nights bed and breakfast. We had a relaxing time with pleasant views from the room. Lovely area for walks. We were grateful for the late check out availability on our second day and for the provision of plates, cutlery etc for our take away evening meal. Breakfast was provided in a beautiful traditional picnic basket with hot croissants etc and there were flowers to greet us on arrival on the dining table in our room. Would very happily make a return visit. Read less

Our farm is at the heart of everything we do, it has been in our family for generations but for the last twenty years it had not been farmed and had fallen into disrepair. Although wild and beautiful, it had become unprofitable, as is so common with many of the welsh hill farms with Cwmberach Uchaf being the last remaining working farm on this stretch of the mountain.
We took over in 2014 and began farming immediately. Our vision is to continue to develop, firstly as a farm but also through diversification such as sustainable tourism and outdoor activities, allowing visitors to share in our experiences and life on the farm.
The farmland has all the variety you would expect from a National Park: pasture, moorland, woodland and mountains. A small river – the Berach – runs through it, with mountain springs and marshland dotted throughout. The landscape has prompted visitors to comment on the genuine away-from-it-all feeling of remoteness, quiet and wildness. It has become something of a nature reserve, with badgers, foxes, owls, red kites and other endangered bird species still thriving. Cuckoos, now the 5th most endangered bird in the UK, visit every year as they always have.

Nearby, visit Carreg Cennen castle, reached by a beautiful 5-mile walking route. Alternatively, there is the lovely market town of LLandeilo on the River Towy, and beside it, Dinefwr Castle. The glacial lakes of Llyn y Fan Fach and Lyn y Fan Fawr make for a good day trip, or pony trekking through the beautiful Black Mountain.
