A lovely 19th Century Coach House on the edge of Dartmoor, only 2.5 miles from the centre of historic Tavistock, home of Sir Francis Drake. On the edge of the Tamar Valley which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only 15 miles from Plymouth, with its historic Barbican where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America.
Unfortunatley we do not have the facilities to cater for under 5 year olds. Ideally situated for walking Dartmoor or the Tamar Valley, playing golf at one of the many courses nearby, coarse fishing in lakes less than a mile from the hotel or superb trout fishing at the famous Tavistock Trout Fisheries.
The Coach House was built on a site, which was originally an Anglo Saxon settlement in 850 AD. It was built by The Duke of Bedford in 1857 to his own design as part of a model farm, and it was sold in 1988 and converted to a small family run hotel. In 1996, an adjoining property was property was purchased to give the hotel a total of 13 bedrooms, two of which have four posters with superb views across the valley to Dartmoor.
The restaurant which has 40 covers overlooks the small walled garden and is open every night. We have a well stocked bar and a lounge area overlooking a walled patio.
The hotel is close to Morwellham Quay a living museum based on the original copper mine and port which thrived in the 1850's. we are also only 4 to 5 miles from the National Trust property of Cotele House and Gardens and about the same distance from Buckland Abbey, home of Sir Francis Drake when he defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588.
