"Totally brilliant - the best accommodation we have stayed in for a long time"
To celebrate our forthcoming 8th wedding anniversary my husband suggested we spend a weekend down in Dorset and stay at The Brace, as he had frequented there some years ago and it was reknowned for its food, beer and hospitality. And it didnt disappoint on any level - from arriving to a lovely welcome by Sharon, to the most beautiful room with the biggest bath I have ever seen (!), and the food was superb. We couldnt fault a single thing - apart from I couldnt take the bath and bed back home!! Read less

Enjoyed our stay but some time and money needs to be spent on the building as it's quite run down in places. The room itself was lovely, alhough some general house-keeping/maintenance is required. For me it’s not just about the room, it's equally important for the rest of the building to be looked after not just the bits you are paying for or seeing the most of. Read less
Likes:
Very large car park. Good selection of beer, ale, cider and wine. Size of rooms. Quality of food. Breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Dislikes:
Boarded up window. Another window with some glass missing. Thatched roof that needs repairing/replacing. Building generally a bit run down. Hair in sink. Loose floor tiles in bathroom.

We have eight en-suite bedrooms, four in the old skittle alley and the remainder upstairs above the pub. All our rooms have been decorated by interior designer Chrissy Potter and we hope you like them as much as we do.
There is some beautiful countryside surrounding our pub with some super walks all around the valley.
As you would expect, situated in the heart of Dorset, we have fabulous produce virtually on our doorstep. Below is a list of our suppliers:
Meat:
George Tucker Butchers in Dorchester, who supplies us with beef from Middlemarsh and Higher Waterstone, lamb from Askerswell and rare breed pork from Godmanstone.
Rose Veal from Jurrasic Meat, Winfrith
Game:
Margret Ralph in Dorchester for all locally sourced venison, pigeon and rabbit
Local Shoots for partridge and pheasant in season
Fish:
Samways of Bridport for locally landed fish
Jeff Milner for Portland Crab and diver caught scallops
Our menus change daily and range in price from £4 to £8 for starters, £10 to £15 for mains and £5 for a homemade dessert and always keep an eye out for our specials board.
