The service was great, food was excellent and the room was cosy. Everyone was very friendly and great location just a short drive away from Glentrool, Kirroughtree and Clatteringshaws.
Dislikes:
A few more ales on tap next time would be nice!

"50th Wedding Anniversary"
We stayed in the cottage which was clean and comfortable. The only slight problems were that the TV was not tuned in, staff did their best to rectify the situation, managing finally to get us BBC1, and the wonky toilet seat which we did advise about, but managed on! Wonder why the cleaner didn't find it was loose before we arrived? The only real hiccup was the steak served at our Anniversary meal which my husband requested be very well done,it was pink in the centre.Dog at next table enjoyed it! Read less

Debbie, the 5 stars for service and friendliness are for her! You have a diamond there, she is the epitomy of good customer service! Don't ever let her go!
Dislikes:
We did tell staff about the steak, but the chef did not come out to apologise or offer to cook another for him. We were offered a free drink but by that time did not want anymore alcohol.

It would be hard to imagine a more beautiful and tranquil setting for an Inn anywhere in Scotland than the one enjoyed by the House o' Hill Hotel on the edge of the Galloway Forest in Bargrennan, near Glentrool, Dumfries and Galloway.

But owners Karen and Helen truly understand that an attractive setting and comfortable accommodation are only part of what makes an inn somewhere you want to come back to time and time again.

Since taking over the House o' Hill in March 2010, they've tastefully refurbished all areas of the hotel. But what makes the House o' Hill truly special is the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere that greets weary visitors looking for rest and relaxation, away from the stresses of modern urban living.

The House o' Hill is in one of the most unspoiled areas anywhere in Britain, yet is just over two hours' drive from the M6 motorway at Carlisle and around 45 minutes' drive from Cairnryan ferry port with regular sailings to and from Ireland.

The House O'Hill currently has two guest rooms which have been recently refurbished to a high standard and offer very comfortable accommodation. We have feather duvets and pillows, along with Egyptian cotton bedding to help ensure a good night of restful sleep.

Also available is our Cottage suite which can now sleep up to 5 people with the addition of a contract sofa-bed.
