The location and the staff.
Dislikes:
The room was very small.
Loud music was played in the bar after 11:30, so couldn't get to sleep.
Washing machine was put on downstairs directly below our room at 7:30 on a Saturday morning.

Food and friendliness. Evening meal lovely and the breakfast was first rate.
Dislikes:
Stairs a bit steep for older legs so need extra care. Room fine for an overnighter but not much space for a longer stay. Bathroom and shower fine.

Lorna & Mark are excellent hosts providing a home from home atmosphere and have invested much in creating a Country Dining Inn with Boutique accommodation at The Punch Bowl. Ideally situated in a quiet village in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, good walking and cycling or fishing on the Derwent Reservoir or Angling Club waters provide the guest with a multitude of choices to occupy the day. In the evening the excellent kitchen provides wholesome food with a twist, alongside a range of Cask conditioned ales and a recently extended wine list. Sunday Lunch is from 12.00-4.30pm and is a must book, with the regular menu being available until 8.30pm and through the week everyday from 12.00-9.00pm.

Four star accommodation (plus Silver Award) from Visit Britain gives the proof of the quality of the bedrooms, all en-suite with either shower or bath & shower. Please ask when booking for your preference. There is a wealth of history in the North East of England, all within a relatively short drive from the Punch. Good nature walks for the experienced, and not so!, can combine to provide the visitor with the ideal spot to enjoy the best of both worlds-the peace and quiet of a small country village with the bustle of Newcastle only half an hour away.

Our intention for 2016 and onwards is to provide golf breaks for those of a more energetic nature with packages for two, three or four days playing any number of the courses in the area. Packages to be advertised once arrangements are finalised.
For the business man or woman, we are close to the Tyne Valley and Consett and can provide the perfect place to entertain business guests or, again, somewhere to simply relax.
