"Cheapest bnb in Durham for the Lumiere weekend and not to far from the city centre"
We visited Durham to attend the Lumiere festival. Our stay was very pleasant and was great value for money. Would definitely book again. There was a little bit of a wait to check in. I think this was because the hotel was very busy due to the festival and there appeared to be only one staff member on to service both the bar and the check in/reception area. Couldn't have waited more than 5 minutes though so overall it wasn't bad. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Read less

The rooms are off a courtyard which gave them an extra element of privacy. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets and pillows were lovely and soft. Very good at keeping us warm.
Dislikes:
There was no shower door, only a shower curetain which meant the floor got wet when we showered. There was also empty toiletries left in the shower from the previous occupants. Quite a few spiders.
Response from The Bay Horse Inn:
Thank you for your review, hope to see you again

"Does not meet basic requirements"
We stayed there 2 nights over a cold November weekend, and were looking forward to having a meal and getting in cosy rooms after a long drive. When we got there however we found out that the restaurant had closed - although we arrived before the 'last order' time that we were given upon booking - and were told we had to quickly order a bar meal instead. When we got into our room we found out the heating was off. Read less

All staff were very friendly and helpful and found us an electric heater. But I'm afraid this cannot make up for having your dinner reservation cancelled and getting a freezing room!
Dislikes:
The room we stayed in had stains on carpet and pillows, and a terrible mattress. Breakfast is ok for the price. We did not expect luxury at this price but a clean and heated room would seem basic.

This truly wonderful public house offers a restaurant and accommodation. Being on the doorstep of Durham, it is an ideal location to enjoy the area's heritage. Brandon Village is only 3 miles from the centre of Durham City.

The building itself is over 300 years old which still retains a lot of the charm of the old ages being an old Coaching Inn. It has been tastefully modernised, with the old stables and courtyard now providing excellent detached accommodation.

There are ten ensuite bedrooms, four doubles, five twins and a family room which can sleep four people.

Continental breakfast is included. (tea, coffee, toast, cereal and fruit juices)

Cooked breakfast is an additional £3.95 per person

We are located 3 miles west from Durham where you can visit the wonderful Cathedral, Castle or stroll along the banks of the River Wear. A great day out can be had at Beamish which is only 8 miles away. The two major cities of the North East, Newcastle & Sunderland, are within 20 miles. For a more relaxing day out, the unspoilt countryside of the Durham Dales are only 10 miles away. The fantastic site of High Force is easily accessible too.
