"Fantastic stay at the Hope Anchor"
We loved the Hope Anchor, positioned in the 'citadel' its location is perfect, overlooking Rye Harbour and the marshes, on the quaint cobbled streets of the town. Service is impeccable, so friendly and welcoming. Our room was 23, the Junior Suite with roll top bath, it was awesome! Very comfortable and worth paying the extra for such a nice experience. The small annex housing the sofa/wardrobe etc was great too as made the bedroom really spacious. Gorgeous views and location, would stay again! Read less
Likes:
Our room was delightful, spacious with the quirky telescope and roll top bath in the room itself, we loved having a bath with a view! Also Chris who looked after us, superb service and recommendations
Dislikes:
Breakfast was decent and they were very accommodating to personal requests/preferences but sausages could be a bit more well done!

Likes:
The room was quiet, airy and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The shower was powerful and hot. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room had a great view.
Dislikes:
Furniture and decoration in the room out of keeping with character of hotel. Cheap. Food very disappointing and overpriced. Dining room bland and lacking intimacy.

We are a traditional privately owned Hotel in Rye and have been welcoming guests for over thirty years, making us one of the longest family owned hotels in Rye.

The hotel dates back to the 18th Century and is one of the smallest hotels in Rye with thirteen en-suite bedrooms, two Apartments and a two hundred year old Fisherman’s Cottage and our restaurant serves local fresh fish, meat and produce from Rye and the surrounding area.

Unlike most of the other hotels in Rye, we are not only situated in the heart of the Citadel alongside cobbled streets and crooked cottages, but we also have outstanding views of Romney Marsh, Camber Castle and the sea.

For the last five years we have been voted the No1 hotel in Rye on Trip advisor for hotels in Rye and the local area thanks to all the great guest comments we have received.

Welcome to The Hope Anchor Hotel and if you are looking for a traditional Country Hotel in Rye, please take a look at what our hotel can offer you.
The Hope Anchor is a mid 18th Century Hotel built at the end of one of the most delightful streets in Rye. The building originally would have housed a Smugglers gang thought to have been “The Tenterden”, a nasty motley crew! Pistols at the ready and regular fights for territory with other local smugglers gangs including the infamous Hawkhurst, legend has it that on one occasion the Tenterden gang famously out gunned the Hawkhurst gang and they scurried hurriedly back to their watering hole! Most of the secret passage ways and escape routes are now blocked in but once here, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to realise what it was like in those dark and exciting days!

The Hope Anchor as its name suggests was built primarily for a watering hole for the sailors and ship builders as Rye was still surrounded by the sea up until the late 18th century.
The hotel and all rooms are Non Smoking.
