"The simplest review I've ever written..."
We popped down to Rye for a quiet couple of days and could not have chosen a better hotel. The service was top notch; the food (two full English breakfasts and one evening meal) were of the highest order. Despite the extreme heat, our secret cottage was cool and just right. Cozy, quiet. Just what we were looking for. Read less

We are a traditional privately owned Hotel in Rye and have been welcoming guests for over thirty years, making us one of the longest owned family hotels in Rye.

The hotel dates back to the 18th Century and is one of the smallest hotels in Rye with thirteen en-suite bedrooms, two Apartments and a two hundred year old Fisherman’s Cottage and our restaurant serves local fresh fish, meat and produce from Rye and the surrounding area.

Unlike most of the other hotels in Rye, we are not only situated in the heart of the Citadel alongside cobbled streets and crooked cottages, but we also have outstanding views of Romney Marsh, Camber Castle and the sea.

For the last five years we have been voted the No1 hotel in Rye on Trip advisor for hotels in Rye and the local area thanks to all the great guest comments we have received.

Welcome to The Hope Anchor Hotel and if you are looking for a traditional Country Hotel in Rye, please take a look at what our hotel can offer you.
The Hope Anchor is a mid 18th Century Hotel built at the end of one of the most delightful streets in Rye. The building originally would have housed a Smugglers gang thought to have been “The Tenterden”, a nasty motley crew! Pistols at the ready and regular fights for territory with other local smugglers gangs including the infamous Hawkhurst, legend has it that on one occasion the Tenterden gang famously out gunned the Hawkhurst gang and they scurried hurriedly back to their watering hole! Most of the secret passage ways and escape routes are now blocked in but once here, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to realise what it was like in those dark and exciting days!

The Hope Anchor as its name suggests was built primarily for a watering hole for the sailors and ship builders as Rye was still surrounded by the sea up until the late 18th century.
The hotel and all rooms are Non Smoking.
