Likes:
The room was clean, comfortable bed. Very good breakfast and the staff were all very friendly and efficient.
Dislikes:
A bit annoyed on arrival to see a large sign outside saying “Rooms fifty pounds” when we had paid ninety!
Response from River Haven Hotel:
Apologies with regard to the sign not being more clear. This relates to single occupancy with no breakfast.

"Friendly staff, tired decor."
As said, the place is friendly and has a kind of charm to it with it's crumpled carpets in hallways and the odd thing not working, even the horrible positioning of the overhead light in the room. It feels cosy. We really did love staying here but feel it's overpriced. Great breakfast one day, not quite as good the next - but we were late so maybe our fault. Or is it still ok to expect a good breakfast during the allotted times? Should be, eh. This place cld be so much better! Read less

The centre of the medieval town is a couple of minutes walk with it's variety of shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants together with such features as the Landgate Tower built in 1325 as a defence against the French. Virtually the whole of the citadel area is a conservation area and includes churches, the Town Hall and a myriad of buildings of historical interest.
