"A little disappointing......"
The staff were very helpful and friendly.

In all honesty, I was disappointed with my room. The decor could best be described as tired. While everything was tidy and clean, the finish seemed a little dated. It was clear that there had been some sort of water damage to the ceilings and walls. The windows were difficult to either close or open, and the shower in the bathroom was held together by rope. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. A real credit to the hotel.

A great location - within easy walk of the city centre.
Dislikes:
The decor and the general upkeep of the rooms.

"This hotel ain't what it used to be"
We last stayed here 2 years ago in October 2012, we stayed here in the superior 4 poster room, there obviously been a flood or burst pipe in the room at one point, as the damp and water damage is still visible with some of the wallpaper, peeling at the edges around this area, 1 light bulb in the bathroom was not working along with 2 in the room, this hotel desperately needs renovating, there is nothing major, just renovation needed, overall it served our purpose. The room served our purpose,
Dislikes:
As in my review, there is very clearly no money being spent on this hotel with the windows being in a right state in our room with one glass pane quiet loose, the bar is not well stocked.

The Edinburgh Ritz Hotel was originally built as a town house in the 1860s right on the edge of Edinburgh's historic New Town in the heart of the city. After a spell housing the Scottish Coal Board the building was converted into a boutique Hotel by Mrs Elizabeth Paterson. She worked extremely hard for almost 50 years seeing the Hotel through the good times and the bad.

With an eclectic taste and an eye for detail she decorated every area in its own unique style, much of which can still be seen today. The Ritz was one of the first hotels in the city to offer all guests an en suite facility. Every effort has been made to retain the original features, including the beautiful cornices, rose crowns and staircases, whilst simultaneously providing guests with all necessary mod-cons.

Handed down through the family the Ritz is undergoing a new lease of life through the eyes of Betty's Grand-daughter Holly and her husband Chris. The emphasis is very much on keeping an individual and unique touch and real focus on good old fashioned hospitality, as has always been the way.

"Betty's" bar is the perfect place for a relaxing drink after a long journey or a hard day's work (be it sight seeing or business meetings).

We look forward to welcoming you through the door soon...
