"Dimly lit with net curtains"
Non-descript service, dim room with mutliple low-level lamps, net curtains which are horrible, no poweraccess by the bed, old-style decor that made it looked proper 1950s ie old not vintage style, lights going on and off in the lobby, broken wardrobe door, and great window space crying out for a comfy chair rather than upright dining-style ones. So much more could be made of the space if they put a mind to it. Read less

"In A Time Warp"
The Hotel was by far in need of a Major Refurbishment the rooms were very very old fashioned beds and furniture from the late 70's!! Bathroom facilities very poor, shower beyond a joke either scalding hot or cold clear window in the bathroom, so a blind had to be pulled down to use the facilities!!
Breakfast was reasonable just had one day but took some time to arrive.
Then finally on our return on Sunday Night at 9.15pm there was an Emergency Phone No. On door. No-one was present in the hote Read less

No very much at all I am afraid....
Dislikes:
As said above in first paragraph.
We had a key so we could open the front door, but this was not good enough.
At a large cost per night there were eight friends staying. No breakfast inc. Very Poor!

Saffron Walden takes the second part of its name from the threatening fortification of Walden Castle, erected by the Normans after the Conquest, and the first from the rare and precious saffron crocus, for which the town became famous.

Saffron Walden itself is an unspoilt country town, with narrow streets and old buildings, many of them 'pargeted'. The town's specialist shops are well worth exploring. Audley End, England's largest Jacobean mansion, is on the doorstep, and the beautiful university town of Cambridge is just 12 miles away. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford and the racing town of Newmarket are also within driving distance.
