Being offered a very poor room with damp, with a baby when we first arrived
Response from Camelia Hotel:
There had been a damp problem in this room due to severe storms which caused localised flooding, a few days prior to this guest’s arrival. The wall had been thoroughly dried out and treated but as the hotel was completely full in the days following, the wall had not yet been redecorated.
The guest was moved to alternative accommodation as soon as her dissatisfaction was brought to our attention.

The Camelia Hotel is situated in a superb position on the seafront at Thorpe Bay, just outside Southend with commanding unrivaled views of the Thames Estuary. This luxurious family run 120 year old hotel is fully refurbished and reputation as the finest hotel in Southend.
Our fully air-conditioned restaurant, which is open daily offers an excellent variety of fine cuisine, from Table d'hote and extensive a la Carte menus to the specials of the day, prepared under the guidance of our Head Chef Gary Howelly, our expertise in catering for a variety of private functions is renowned, wedding receptions being our speciality.
The quiet surroundings of our summer patio over looking the sea enhance the enjoyment of a drink from our well stocked bar, which boasts an impressive wine list. At the Camelia, we aim to make life for the business person on the move, as easy as possible. For that rereason we have installed free wi-fi internet throughout hotel. We run a paperless office were possible and we have installed low energy fittings throughout and have replaced boilers with high efficency condensing boilers. We recycle
