Kington,

Herefordshire,

HR5 3DR,  United Kingdom
The Oxford Arms is a traditional 17th century former coaching inn set in the small market town of Kington in the county of Herefordshire, one of the few remaining unspoilt counties in the UK. It is positioned on the edge of town and still retains many original features. We are a friendly, family run business who pride ourselves on being a community pub. We have no juke box or sky tv and serve good traditional home cooked food using local suppliers and always stock great local real ales.

"Comfortable bedrooms and good breakfast."
It has to be said it all looked a bit disappointing when we arrived at 4.20 to a closed, very scruffy looking pub. The door was soon opened by a friendly and welcoming person. The rooms were clean with lovely, big, comfortable beds and hot water bottles provided. Very well stocked tea, coffee and biscuit provision. Good supply of hot water, very necessary after a day's cycling. Secure storage for bikes was a bonus. Read less

The Oxford Arms is nestled in Kington, a small peaceful town, in rural Herefordshire, it dates, in parts back to the 17th Century, it is mainly a timber frame and stone building that has been added to over the years and in Victorian times the front façade was added. There is still a lot of timber inside however which gives you a real feel for its age. The Oxford Arms is the perfect place to enjoy wholesome home-made traditional pub food in a warm welcoming atmosphere. Drinkers and diners can choose to sit in our more traditional homely pub bar or our warm more comfortable lounge bar.

You will always be made welcome at The Oxford Arms by our friendly staff whether you are coming in for a meal in the week or a traditional Sunday lunch or if you just want to sit by our fires on a cold day and read the papers with a pint of one our Herefordshire brewed real ales, you are always welcome.
We aim to provide you with great food and local cask ales, comfortable accommodation and friendly efficient service.

Local Area

Kington is popular with people who walk, canoe, fish and cycle alike being very close to the Mortimer Trail which runs between Kington and Ludlow and the more famous Offas Dyke walk which covers a route 177 miles long along the border of England and Wales. It is also central to the Wye and Usk rivers, so for those of you who want a watery get away Kington is the place to come.

Kington also boast an 18-hole golf course, which is said to be the highest in England. It is situated on Bradnor Hill and is over 390m above sea level.

At the West end of Kington is a tall clock tower that commemorates Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1887. There is also a very beautiful recreation ground at this end of the town that is surrounded by trees and has a shallow river running along one edge.

St Mary’s church overlooks Kington with its 18th century lynch gate and massive Norman tower and from here you have panoramic views down the Arrow Valley.
