"Quality accommodation and distinguished food in the Highlands"
We returned to The Cross having enjoyed previous stays in 2007 and 2009. This year under the current owners we were pleased to again experience a high quality stay in comfortable accommodation, the highlight being superb evening meals. Whilst the price is at the higher end, this is justified by the consistent excellence, quality of ingredients and sourcing, service and attention to detail. Wines too are enjoyable, with an interesting range at reasonable prices for this dining bracket. Read less

Superb dining and relaxing ambience throughout. Proximity to wildlife is a bonus - red squirrels right outside the windows.

The Cross at Kingussie- an award winning restaurant with rooms located in the lovely Highland village of Kingussie in the stunning Cairngorm National Park, surrounded by mountains, rivers and lochs. Set in 4 acres of riverside grounds, the Gynack Burn flows through the garden to join the River Spey in the village. An abundance of native trees, flowers & wildlife including roe deer and red squirrels. The Cross combines quality with simplicity, good food & a warm welcome. Built as a water powered tweed mill in the late 1800s, The Cross maintains the character and some of the original features of the mill. Recommended in The Times Travel Nov 2014 as one of '30 great British winter weekend destinations' ,Press & Journal June 2015 "a delightful Highland gem"-Scot on Sunday
May 2016- "a striking menu, superlative dining". AA Inspectors'Choice Restaurant with Rooms 2016. AA Breakfast Award 2016. A place to relax & recharge the spirit & enjoy some of the freshest, finest cuisine.

Open for lunch (3 courses with choices £25), afternoon tea ( sandwiches and cakes £17 ) and dinner. Advance booking is advised. In the evening we serve dinner from 7 until 8.30 p.m. and offer two menus - either a 3 course menu with choices at £55 or a tasting menu at £60 with optional wine matching. A.A. Two Red Rosettes. Recommended in The Good Food Guide and Michelin Guide & Good Hotel Guide in 2016. The Scotsman Restaurant Review for lunch on 27 July 2013 by Gaby Soutar said "what a place this is - a little sliver of heaven".

Champagne is served on the terrace in the summer – and drams in a cosy lounge in winter. The wine list is extensive. Dinners are served by an open fire in the stone walled and wood beamed restaurant.

There are two comfortable lounges in which to relax and unwind – with many games and books – lots of local information and suggestions for walks and excursions. There are eight comfortable bedrooms, all with large beds and well equipped en-suite bathrooms.
Environmental Statement
As a family-run restaurant with rooms in a fantastic natural environment, we care about the world we will pass on to our children. We reuse and recycle a wide variety of items including paper, corks, card, plastics, printer cartridges, and even bread (for local ducks!). We use as many recycled materials as we can.We are working hard to cut down energy and water usage. Low energy lighting is being installed in as many fittings as possible and bedroom televisions are switched off when rooms are serviced. In the restaurant we make full use of local seasonal produce and where we can we buy produce that has been grown or reared by organic methods. Some of the grounds at The Cross are left to grow into wild areas to encourage local wildlife such as roe deer, squirrels, hedgehogs, frogs, butterflies, and a large range of bird species.
