"Lovely short break with great food"
We enjoyed a short break to celebrate a birthday and wedding anniversary in late October. As I'd been travelling a lot in previous weeks, we decided to stay fairly close to home to minimise travelling and chose The Cross based on some of the food reviews we'd read. Dinner on both the evenings we stayed was absolutely top notch, offering really nice menu choices that were beautifully presented. Read less

Great setting, great welcome, great walks straight from the door. Take your boots and build up an appetite for some great food (walks very well signposted - you'd have to try hard to get lost!)
Dislikes:
Nothing really comes to mind. It was peaceful and fairly quiet when we visited, but we were quite happy with that as we were looking for a quiet relaxing break.

The food is definitely the highlight atThe Cross and the reason why we chose it. Every course was excellent and there was a fabulous choice for both our tastes. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. We would have liked to have wifi in the room, the only place we got a good signal was in the downstairs lounge. The food more than made up for that minor inconvenience though and we'd thoroughly recommend it. Read less

The Cross at Kingussie is a family run five star rated award winning restaurant with rooms located in the lovely Highland village of Kingussie within the stunning Cairngorm National Park, surrounded by mountains, rivers and lochs. Situated in four acres of riverside grounds, the Gynack Burn flows through the garden to join the River Spey in the village. We have an abundance of native trees, flowers and wildlife including roe deer and red squirrels. The Cross combines quality with simplicity and good food with a warm welcome. Built as a water powered tweed mill in the late 1800s, The Cross maintains the character and some of the original features of the mill.

Our head chef Ross in October 2012 won the covetted title 'Young Highland Chef of the Year 2012' and the daily changing dinner menu features his innovative ideas using seasonal and where possible local produce. .

Champagne is served on the terrace in the summer – and drams in a cosy lounge in winter. The wine list is extensive. Dinners are served by an open fire in the stone walled and wood beamed restaurant.

There are two comfortable lounges in which to relax and unwind – with many games and books – and a plethora of local information and suggestions for walks and excursions. There are eight comfortable bedrooms, all with large beds and well equipped en-suite bathrooms.
Environmental Statement
As a family-run restaurant with rooms in a fantastic natural environment, we care about the world we will pass on to our children. We reuse and recycle a wide variety of items including paper, corks, card, plastics, printer cartridges, and even bread (for local ducks!). We use as many recycled materials as we can.We are working hard to cut down energy and water usage. Low energy lighting is being installed in as many fittings as possible and bedroom televisions are switched off when rooms are serviced. In the restaurant we make full use of local seasonal produce and where we can we buy produce that has been grown or reared by organic methods. Some of the grounds at The Cross are left to grow into wild areas to encourage local wildlife such as roe deer, squirrels, hedgehogs, frogs, butterflies, and a large range of bird species.
