"A night at the Norfolk"
My husband and I returned to the Royal Norfolk after a gap of over 30 years. It was great to return and see that they still have live bands playing at weekends, and the Saturday we were there it was one of the staff's 40th birthday so a party was being held in the bar area. We had been warned that it might be a little noisy and the owner offered us one of their quiet rooms so we wouldn't be disturbed by the party. Read less
Likes:
The staff are very helpful and considerate. The hotel has a warm, friendly, easy-going atmosphere. The beds are extremely comfortable, the bathroom was huge, and exceptionally clean with lovely views.
Dislikes:
We opted to stay for breakfast which was not included in the price of the room. The food could have been a little hotter, and I felt that overall the price of the breakfast was a little high.

Visited by Queen Victoria, and situated a stone’s throw from the beach, the Royal Norfolk Hotel offers comfortable and well appointed accommodation. Our facilities include a busy bar and restaurant and private off-road parking.
Along with a warm welcome and family friendly atmosphere, the hotel also overlooks Henry VIII’s 15th century Castle. Surrounded by the Cinque Ports, which are steeped in naval history, the area extends along 2kms of the Kent coastline with Folkestone and Hythe on either side.
The beach in front of the hotel is also highly regarded for its competition angling, with sea fishing trips available from the old harbour. Local amenities include a choice of well regarded golf courses, National Trust heritage sites and five Michelin starred restaurants. The area is well known for a wide range of water sports, including kite boarding and jet skiing. For those wanting to take in the fresh sea air, Sandgate offers a range leisurely walks past the shops and along the sea wall through to the lush coastal park, with awe inspiring views across the Channel to France. A stroll along Marine Parade to Sandgate’s neighbouring town Folkestone, will find you looking at the Leas Lift, one of the oldest funicular cliff lifts in England, giving access to the historic Leas Promenade. Other local attractions include the miniature Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam railway, Royal Military Canal, Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, Dover and Leeds Castles and Canterbury Cathedral. The Channel Tunnel and Eurostar open up your gateway to Europe, with Dover, the busiest port in Britain, offering a wide range of cross channel ferries. In addition, the high speed rail link takes you straight into the heart of London, all of which are within easy reach of the Royal Norfolk Hotel.
