Stayed in Room 1 which was very comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed all our meals - we were spoiled for choice with the dinner menu on both nights. Excellent choice of real ales for my husband.

"Overpriced as facilities did not work and breakfast a shambles"
Birthday treat, room beautiful, bathroom fantastic but bath could not be used as water only like warm at best. The hotel admitted that the water heating system can't cope. We went for breakfast at 0845 on Sunday morning, the chef told us to go to Clitheroe (as one couple did), or come back later. The key holder had not turned up, eventually the chef broke in. The printer didn't work and when we got home we had been double charged. Read less

The two-storey, 130 cover Assheton Arms is the flagship venue in the Seafood Pub Company’s group. A recent refurbishment of the venue has refreshed the feel of the stylish restaurant whilst retaining its strong identity as a community village inn.

Guests are now able to enjoy an extended stay at The Assheton Arms with our new bedrooms and cottages. Located in Ash Tree Cottage and the former Post Office in Downham, our 12 bedrooms include two family rooms sleeping up to four people.

Combining a truly unique location with stunning views of Pendle Hill, our outstanding food offering and excellent customer service, the new accommodation at the Assheton Arms is the perfect choice for somewhere to stay in the Ribble Valley. It is ideally suited to families looking for a weekend break and for corporate clients visiting businesses in locations such as Clitheroe, Blackburn or Burnley.

Named the County Pub of the Year in the Good Pub Guide 2015 the Assheton Arms at Downham is an historic Grade II listed village pub in the untouched conservation village of Downham near Clitheroe. Boasting stunning views across the Ribble Valley to the legendary Pendle Hill, the uniqueness of the village has made Downham a popular TV and film location since the 1960’s with productions including Whistle Down the Wind, Born and Bred and The Secret of Crickley Hall filmed in the village.
