We came in late in the afternoon and were kindly welcomed by the staff. They showed us our room, number 1. We also had made a eservation for our dinner. We were surprised by the quality of the food, which was very good. We were also suprised by the kindly and affectedly way the staff was working. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpfull. They all were working very hard and very good together. Next day we were again recieved by friendly staff for our breakfast.

The Sun Inn is a beautiful old coaching inn that lies close to the banks of the River Esk in five acres of beautiful wooded grounds. Our historic building has been recently refurbished to give it a stylish contemporary feel, while retaining its true charm and character. The Sun Inn provides the perfect setting for a wonderful meal, a quiet drink or an enjoyable evening with friends. And remember, we're not just a pub – we're also an AA four-star boutique hotel.
The Sun Inn is a real family business. Head Chef Ian Minto, is an award-winning cook with a passion for quality and fresh produce. Craig, his son, is the expert 'nose' behind the Inn's exceptional wine list. While mother and daughter-in-law, Bernadette and Jay, bring their inspiration to the décor and front of house arrangements.
A Passion for Great Food and Hospitality
We bring a passion for great food and drink, and a commitment to friendly and attentive service, to everything we do. We work on the principle that our guests deserve the best and continually ask ourselves 'what would we expect?' We then try and exceed our own expectations!
The renovation of the Inn, which was completed in 2008, was a true labour of love. Starting with a clear vision of what we wanted the inn to look like, we stripped the walls back to the original stone, refurbished the old fireplace and laid a stunning new wooden floor. No detail was overlooked – from the massive beam over the bar to the beautiful 'feature' wallpapers that bring the main dining area to life - we made sure that every detail of the Inn was just right. We paid equal care to each of our five guest rooms, which have been refurbished with a real eye for style and comfort.
Led by father and son team Ian and Craig Minto, everyone at the Inn is dedicated to providing the best service and the warmest of welcomes.
