Likes:
Wonderful to be close to CityLink bus stop and close enough to CityTour bus stop. Good value for location. Beautiful downstairs (admired ceiling cornices!). Very helpful & friendly staff, 24/7.
Dislikes:
Bathroom needs work to bring up to quality of the rest. No elevator but that's OK for us.

Hotel very basic, clean bedclothes and bathroom but room itself was unkempt and grubby. Had to wash cups and kettle before use, they were filthy.
Reception staff on first day were extremely helpful, however at breakfast we felt we were an inconvenience to the lady,we didn't ask for anything or feel we could go for additional food until a man came in and brought in a selection of foods and was more accommodating. Read less

Our building dates from 1860, when built amongst the last of the New Town. We are Grade 2 Listed , which means sadly we cannot install a lift and there's a LOT of stairs, great if you are into exercise, but not so great if you aren't able bodied.
Our founder was Eliza, who had spent her youth in Service, from Large Estates to Hotels to private residences. She had vision, and was ahead of her time, when she converted our buildings from National Coal Board Offices in 1962, to an eclectic hotel with en suite facilities, TVs etc ; one of the first to do so in Edinburgh.
Eliza had seen that the Ritz in London was founded by Cesar Ritz, who liked her had worked his way up , and with her sense of humour, she couldn't resist calling her hotel The Ritz!
She wanted the hotel to remain as true as possible to its heritage, and as you look around, you will see a sympathetic conversion of an 1860 New Town Town House.
Also it means, no two rooms are the same! And we have original cornices!
It is a philopshy we like to continue in her memory, and we are in the process of some changes, which will take time, but we wish to remain true to her memory and keep it original & quirky!
